Over priced for what you get. Tried this restaurant for the first time on Friday and was a little disappointed based on the price I paid. I love the principal of the place, farm to table and all, but if they don’t make either their portions bigger or their prices lower I won’t be back!
My Husband and I were very excited to try out this farm-to-table organic restaurant but were very disappointed. We went for a Sunday morning brunch. The portions were very small. I ordered eggs, bacon, hash browns and toast. The bacon and hash browns were not thoroughly cooked and the piece of toast was one very small piece. It just wasn’t what we expected at all. My husband ordered the breakfast burrito and French fries. He wasn’t very happy with his meal either. There was no music playing and we both thought the environment was very bland. After we left, we ran through Starbucks to get pastries since we were both still hungry. Wouldn’t go back again.
We loved our dinning experience here. I felt that it was the best in Des Moines. High quality food top to bottom.
Fantastic atmosphere, fabulous location……thats where it ends. I like to start out with the positives, location, atmosphere, and my drink was great…..The food was not good. My flat iron steak was so tough you couldn’t chew thru it. I tried the burger cooked medium, it was super dry and absolutely no flavor. Not once did the server ask how my meal was, considering I left a whole steak on plate. Another complaint I have is the wait…..I like a lingering dinner, but 3+ hours is a little too much for me, considering we didn’t order appetizers, and most of us didn’t order a first coarse. I really want this restaurant to succeed.
Unreasonably skimmpy portion. Paid 8.00/16.00 (for both) for a salad that my daughter and I each got. While the salad was excellent there was hardly any salad in either of our dishes. When I say skimpy It was really bad. I never complain but told the waitress. She said my comment would be noted. I didnt see her tell anyone and felt she could care less. Additionally my husband ordered chicken noodle soup that was very pricey and skimpy and neither of us could eat it because it was way too salty. It was a 40.00 lunch worth no more than $3.00 with not such good service. My husband didnt want to leave a tip but we left 20% anyhow. Would not recommend this restaurant and will not go again. Way too expensive, very very small portion and not much menu choices either.
Went to HOQ for lunch on a friends recommendation. Friend went for dinner and said the good was great. I went for lunch and it was terrible will not be going back for dinner. Asked said friend if he was hammered when he went. Friend said he was not. 11 dollar burger which is 16 at dinner was horrible. Root fries were greasy soggy and over seasoned. soup was nothing special at 7 bucks a bowl. the wife had the grilled cheese with salmon, it was all doughy bread not much cheese and less salmon. Her soup was the carrot and ginger and was even less lackluster than my chicken noodle, and it was not very warm at all. Bad experience all around
We loved the concept of farm to table. The food was tasty;however, the service was horrible. We waited 30 minutes to get water. We had to ask for water, menus, when our food would arrive, for the bill two times, etc. We were not even sure who was our waiter was during our time there. Unfortunately, we will never go back nor will we recommend it to any of our relatives in the Des Moines area.
