My husband and I stopped here on our way home from Austin, TX. It was easy to get to from the freeway and we were able to find parking on the street for our truck and trailer. I had the Japache w/pork belly and my husband the Miso Mac & Cheese. Both are solid dishes. My only gripe is that I had to use a fork and knife to cut through the pork belly. Despite that, I would stop there and order it again if I find myself in Des Moines and hungry. It’s a solid noodle shop. Do not let the space/decor deter you!
Had the #1 (the Krunkwich) which has chicken tare, pork belly, and shredded pork — topped with Nori, Green Onion, Fish Cake. Also threw in a soft boiled egg and kimchee on top. The flavor was great! My man candy had the #$@&!! Ramen. Said it was the cure for a sinus clearing and the flavor was awesome! Made to order pretty quickly. Service was helpful and charming. Don’t expect a pretty building and interior decor to fit the fancy East Village vibe. This place is rugged. But don’t let the place detract you from some darn good ramen soup. I’m sad it’s not open on a Sunday–best day to cuddle up with some soup. SOOO 4 stars cuz it met good expectations but didn’t WOW me for a 5.
