Price !!. We will NOT be back, prices are very high, you don’t get a lot of food for the price, not worth the trip to downtown….
Not worth it at all. I had been to Lucca for lunch and found it interesting. So my boyfriend wanted to take me to a romantic dinner, we decided on Lucca and it was very disappointing. To begin, we had reservations on a Friday night for 2 at 6pm. We waited inside the door for at least five minutes to be greeted, the host or hostess was nowhere to be seen, although the owner was flirting with the four guys at the bar. He did see us waiting as he turned and smiled then ignored us. After we were seated the waitress was very gracious. The food was ok, but not remarkable, especially for the price. My beef seemed very tough, although the scallops were very good. The menu was interesting but again, not worth the money. We did have the apple cake and panna cotta for desert, both were ok but overpriced. In my opinion it was a big disappointment.
East Village Gem. Two visits to this place provided equally enjoyable experiences. Simple menu, fixed price, appropriate sized servings prepared with care. What else can you want? These are not gut buster meals but quality overwhelms quantity..a rare find in Des Moines.Score 8 out of 10 spoons.
Absolutely amazing! Great service, amazing food, and classy atmosphere.
Our First Experience at Lucca was absolutely delightful. I couldn’t get over the simple one page menu with five or six lines, no descriptions. Our waitress was wonderful and explained everything beautifully. We tried the Risotto dish, their Salmon preparation, and topped off with their Chocolate Cake. We totally loved the preparations and the atmosphere, and vowed that we’d be back.
All menu items were $30. A bit pricey. Two courses. First was outstanding, but the second was only average. Not enough to bring me back. Great asthetics. Service was great and well prepared.
I will be back!. This is my first experience at Lucca and the service was excellent. The menu was setup for a 2-course meal all for the same price. There were 6 or so first cource options and 5 main course options. I chose the Risotto and the steak. I have never tried risotto before but it was tasty and not mushy or grainy so I believe it was prepared properly. The steak was cooked perfectly and the rosemary potatoes were great. My gripes are that their wine by the glass options were slim so we felt forced to buy a full bottle to get the type of wine we wanted. Also my steak was cut into pieces for me when I got it. Kind of made me feel like a little kid and mommy had cut my steak up for me to eat. Other than that the food was good. I will probably come back again.
