1/2 pound of meat? More like 1/2 lb of bs…. Ordered a 1/2 lb sandwich ($11) and all I got was about 3 slices of Carl Buddig. Weak. Wayne Static that worked there acted like he was giving me a free Vlasic pickle. Wow. George Dubbbya once said fool me once, ummmm hhh, well you will never fool me again…
Good place to eat. I got a sandwich with turkey and salami and it was delicious. It had a lot of meat and it was a big sandwich. The actual restaurant is in an older part of Des Moines in a building that is taken care of nicely. Also the deli has a grocery section to it. The Rabbi that prepared the sandwiches was nice and very welcoming. He asked our names and what bought us in to his store. Next time I go I will take my family.
Highly recommend. Even better than the excellent food is Rabbi Jacobson, who made me feel welcome. I will definitely be going back!
Great Sandwiches. Maccabee’s is a typical deli where you can buy meats for sandwiches. We bought the Roosevelt. A sandwich with turkey and pastrimi and it was great. There is more meat than you can eat and it came with a huge dill pickle. The employee’s were very helpful and the deli was extremely clean. Located in an older part of Des Moines, we had trouble parking to go in and get sandwiches but it was really busy around lunch time when we were there. We also got an order of potato Latkes. I’ve never had these before. They were excellent. Much like a potato pancake, they are served with applesauce and sour cream. A definiite must if you eat here. I would recommend Maccabee’s to anyone that wants to eat a sandwich bigger than you can handle.
Des Moines’ Best Deli. Are you looking for a New York deli experience? Move over Manhattan Deli, and take a chance on Maccabee’s Kosher Deli. The banter is always great with the proprietor, Rabbi Jacobson, and the meat is always delicious. If you have the appetite, go for the Whole Megillah. 2/3 pounds of pure, meaty deliciousness. While you’re there, shop the grocery for all of your kosher food needs!
