Yummy! My favorite Mexican food in Iowa.. Yummy!My favorite Mexican meal is now Pollo Loco!I found this great restaurant in Charles City Iowa and was delighted to find they have 2 more locations – Mason City And Des Moines. This location in Des Moines did not disappoint! The chips and salsa were brought right away to our table. The chips are freshly made and not greasy. The salsa seemed smoother and less chunky than in Charles City, yet was superbly seasoned, spicy but not too hot. My Pollo Loco was flavorful, with well cooked and still moist chicken. The onions were soft and flavorful, the red sweet peppers were a bit scarce, but the lettuce was generous and freshly shredded. His lunch special chicken enchilada with over easy egg, rice and beans was pronounced tasty. My platter of Pollo Loco was large enough for leftovers for another meal later.The Pueblo Viejo restaurant name was a bit confusing to me as I knew it by Plaza Mexico, aka Plaza Mexi. Regardless of the name, this is my favorite Mexican food in Iowa.We would return.
