We had a house warming party to attend yesterday and decided to take tamales, I called ahead and placed an order for 18 tamales in all flavours. They were a HIT of the party. Everyone wanted to know where we purchased them, thankfully they gave me their business card and everyone took one. The pork. Cheese and pepper and the pineapple got rave reviews!
We came on Friday afternoon. The best waiter help us friendly, informative about menu. We all had the beef tamales…excellent will go back. You can order by the doz. great take out idea! Inexpensive great food. Just call ahead early enough so they are fresh when you pick up.
Every time we have gone there, they haven’t had what we wanted. ran out. the tamales were terrible – 3 inches of masa and very little meat! the masa was hard and you swear it was a week old.
I love tamales, just not these…. The filling for the tamales was way too small, so it wasn’t possible to taste and evaluate. The masa/breading was mostly fine, but just overwhelmed the tiny pencil of meat in there. Quest continues for good tamales in Des Moines, but the donkey cart won’t be stopping here again. Sorry folks, I wanted it to be good, but it wasn’t.
Went in for lunch today and was impressed. Had the tongue tacos and the three plate tamale. We had the spicy pork, mild beef, and the chile poblano tamales. The flavors were great and the salsa was delicious as well. Definitely a little hole in the wall worth trying. I will be stopping again and bringing friends!
Terrible. Dried out and seems like the rice was a dry mix package. Also, the beans were straight from a can with some queso sprinkled on top. Way overpriced! Save your money!!
Really is Iowa’s best tamale. I love how the tamales aren’t rubbery, and I love how well done they are down to the excellent flavor to the fine moisture of the tamale, the soup was delicious and I like that it’s homemade daily, the salsa is excellent (also home made) and I love the dessert tamales! Fruity and zesty! I don’t know if ‘alruttencutter’ came to the right restaurant or she just has a bad palette. I think they are Iowa’s best tamale.
