Service was fine but food is mediocre at best. Pizza may be an exception and was not bad. The rest of the menu is pretty much below average and overpriced for what it is.
Time for a change. I have lived in Dubuque my whole life. The Shot Tower has been a staple for Dubuque local restaurants. However, I think the quality of the food has decreased over the years. Last night my girlfriend ordered chicken alfredo. The chicken tasted like old chicken, or canned chicken. The sauce was not fresh but tasted like it was from a jar. The waiter was very helpful. He gave us a sample of goulash…. which was bland. I ordered the catfish which was mediocre. It seems to me the Shot Tower is taking a lot of shortcuts. They have an opportunity to be a quality local restaurant but instead are cutting corners which will make me not return. Truly a shame.
Ok food. The food here is ok. They have both self service where you order at the counter and sit down waitress service. I tried the italian beef and it was good but not as good as in Chicago. Spouse had the chicken strips and they were good. Probably not my first choice but may try it again.
Shot Tower used to have excellent food back in the 1990’s. I recently ate there and the quality of the food has severely diminished over the years. It was definitely not the same as I remembered it to be when the old man ran it when I used to regularly eat there while I was in college. The service was terrible and nobody would own up to the mistake that was made to my order. It was a far cry from when Wally ran the place. I will never eat there again when I am back in the Dubuque area.
A Big NO!. Me & my fiance traveled to Dubuque, IA for vacation and thought we would try out some local food. We went here & it was awful. I thought it was sit down service, but it wasn’t. We sat down & nobody would even think about coming over to take our order. So I went up to the counter & they took my order – $20 for 2 Pepsi, nachos, and the choose 3 platter – mozzarella sticks, chicken fingers, & cheese balls. Nachos was the cheap stuff from Walmart & the choose 3 platter thing was all fried with no character at all. I was not satisfied AT ALL. Oh, and if you want a refill you had to go up to the counter and wait for them to notice you to refill it for you. Stupid. What happened to service anymore?
So good I fly into Dubuque. Once a quarter I actually fly my airplane from East Lansing MI to Dubuque IA to eat at the Shot Tower. I only order the Meatball sub basket then get some to go. I have been all over the country and this is the best Meatball sub I have ever had. The service has always been great and prices are good. I can feed my family of 6 for under $50.
Dont eat here!!!. The Food was horrible, we spent 40 bucks on nothing, we could have saved a ton and went to walmarts frozen foods and got more of what we ordered, for less and prolly would have tasted better. The portions are horrible, i paid 9 bucks for a combo basket that came with 2 small pieces of chicken, 2 mot. sticks, and about 10 cheese curds, had a raw hamburger and called the manager and spoke to 2 different ones, told them how there food was and that we werent impressed and would never be eating there again, asked for money back and the guy swore at me and told me to call better business bureau. So i will make sure that people really know what kind of food, these rude people serve.DONT EAT HERE!!!!!!
