A hidden gem. Chez Grace is an extraordinary dining experience. Unlike every other restaurant where the chef hides behind the kitchen door, your chef and owner David will most likely be your host, wait staff, and matre-d. David is not only charming he is also extremely knowledgeable about the wine list and, most importantly, the cuisine. He will guide you through the selection, preparation, and pairings of the menu items. Chez Grace is the location if you wish to experience an unforgettable variety of superb foods which will complement your special occasion with an extremely intimate and classy atmosphere. We highly suggest the foie gras appetizer, the filet mignon prepared with black truffle balsamic reduction and breast of duck. The crme brle is phenomenally decadent as well. This is the place for the special event that you will talk about and remember fondly for many years.

Outstanding. Amazing food. Terrific ambiance. David is a one man show, he cooks, cleans and is the waiter. He will talk with you after he is done preparing your meal. It’s a little tough to find, settled in a strip mall on the strip in Coralville. The place is darker inside than the normal restaurant bathed in neon lights. The steak au pouviere was one of the best steaks I have ever had. Covered in an decadent peppercorn sauce and served with the best potatoes cooked in butter. My girlfriend ordered the salmon served with orzo. I was lucky to get a bite of it. I don’t think fish can be cooked any better. Top it off with creme brulee, and you will leave wondering what you have been eating all your life.

Superb. I have to admit I’m very biased. I’ve been going to Chez Grace since it opened. It’s the finest restaurant in Iowa City and it’s as good or better than most major city restaurants, east coast, west coast, or gulf coast. I’ve lived and traveled abroad as well as living in DC, Houston, and San Francisco, and spending 2 weeks each year in the New York / Boston area. The food, the wine, the ambiance and the service are as fine as you’ll fine in Manhattan, or Boston or Seattle. We usually order the fillet and a fine bottle of wine, with a soup or salmon appetizer. David (the owner) fixes my vegetarian wife a special vegetarian dish each time we come in. The food is fresh, with a preference for locally grown, and or flown in from the east or west coast for items like duck or fish. The cost is similar to fine restaurants on the coast, which places it at above average for this area. The dining experience is well worth it. Jeff and Pamela.

The best. Best meal ever in the Midwest, and perhaps in the US. Delicious food, perfectly prepared. Chef/host is charming, efficient, knowledgeable. Perfect intimate spot for a very special occasion.

Best meal, ever.. This was my first real French cuisine experience, and I was truly blown away. Foie gras (w/caramelized pear) was out of this world. Filet mignon w/black truffle sauce, also fantastic — potatoes were cooked perfectly. Dinner partner had Steak Au Poivre with a cream/peppercorn sauce. It too, was fantastic … they shared one bite with me – I plan to try it next time. Everything is made fresh. Whoever complains about portion sizes being too small is probably comparing it to typical American portions which are oversized to begin with. This was the perfect amount of food – not too much, not too little. The whole experience left me wanting to devour everything but yet savor every bite ate the same time. The service was outstanding (our chef was our server this evening); the setting was intimate and lovely. It costs more than the stereotypical bland chain food restaurant, but it was absolutely worth every penny. I highly recommend checking it out; I will definitely return for dinner as well.

This is a fantastic restaurant. I just had the lamb here. I completely recommend the food and service here. This is a one of a kind restaurant for the area.

Can’t wait to return for all special occasions!!!. Contender for best restaurant in Iowa City! Had an amazing meal with my family this weekend! We selected a bottle of wine off the wine list that the chef recommended and it did not disappoint!Started with the carrot soup and it was delicious!! Tried a bite of my moms asparagus salad and it was amazing! My dad and husband enjoyed the smoked salmon appetizer! The chef also sent over an order of foie gras with pear and balsamic vinegar – I was not sure that I was refined enough to like it but I really enjoyed it! Overall – appetizers were simple and delicious! For our main course three of us ordered steak and two ordered fish – all were perfectly prepared. Simple, but with great flavor! The best part of the experience was the intimacy! The restaurant is small – about 7 tables and the chef is the host, waiter, chef, sommelier, and even dishwasher! He had a great personality and it was enjoyable to be able to talk with the person preparing your food! He even torched the creme brule at our table!Delcious food, great atmosphere – we plan to go back for our next special occasion!
