You have to see it in person.. The Deadwood is one of my favorite bars in Iowa City. Why? Because it has a very unique flavor. It has not changed since I went to Iowa for my undergrad degree in the early 80’s. Yes, it’s dark and dingy, but it attracts a pretty interesting cross section of people. Another illustration on the typical patron: When mountain bikes first became popular you saw them at all the bike racks all over town except in front of the Deadwood. There you would (and still do) find the beat up Schwinn LeTour 10 speeds. Service has always been good. I even talked my waitress into going across the street to bring us pizza one night.
Tang Bombs!!. I’m not really a D-Wood type of gal. The bar is dark and dingy, a dive bar at it’s finest and the employees are somewhat rude. However, whenever my friends and I come to Iowa City we always stop by here. We always take photos in their photo booth which is fun! Also, we make sure we take Tang Bombs before we leave, which is Tang and Jaeger…this has become a tradition for my friends and I and I know we will continue to come here every time we are in Iowa City.
