It was a surprise find and it could have been a Sze Chuan restaurant straight from China. Most of the patrons were Asian students from University of Iowa. Lots of chop stick actions. Forks are under utilized here or out of commission.I wanted Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup. In my defense, many Sze Chuan restaurants in Chicago have this on their menu. Taiwanese style beef noodle is spicy but had a trace of star anise and garnished with cilantro. I asked my server and she didn’t know but she told me they had it. However it was different. This one was definitely more Sze Chuan style with that numbing Sze Chuan pepper flavor of super frickin hot hot hot. It was so hot and plus the temperature of the broth was boiling as well. I couldn’t feel my lips. The beef chunks itself were also a combo of beef, tendon, and some grizzles I couldn’t identify. I’d rather just have beef.Can a place be too authentic? Maybe!! I will go again and try the dry chili chicken though and some of the fish in hot oil. I’ll update my review then!
