Hands down, the best coffee I’ve ever had. I go here constantly to study (if I can find a place to sit). I’m consistently impressed with the baristas’ work and wonderful attitudes. Iowa City has a lot of great coffee shops, but this should be the top of your list.
I had breakfast: an egg wrap and coffee. Simple, tasty, and quick. But what really struck me was the huge diversity of the menu. I was standing there, waiting my coffee, and a dozen people were asking all sorts of beverages. I would never remember any of them!
I really like their coffee and I also like hanging out there but then again, I actually am an English major (to reference the last review). The staff seems grumpy most of the time but I will usually overlook that once my espresso has been served. Black coffee and cafe mochas are both recommended. 7.5/10 overall
Overrated coffee house for English majors, and hipsters. You want good coffee? Buy a coffee maker
Great Coffee. Java HouseTime: AfternoonDrink: Coffee (black)Food: Monster CookieI find the Java House coffee to be among the best in the Iowa City / Cedar Rapids corridor. The method of individually brewing each coffee order makes for the absolute freshest drink every time. I have never had a bad coffee experience here. However, I do not always like the service or their modus operandi. I find the process of knowing which coffee is yours in the queue and when it is ready to take confusing. In addition, the staff has never felt approachable. Almost like they know coffee better than anyone on the planet and don’t think about f’ing with their state of zen by asking them a question.Strange rant … I know. But it is how I feel. Their selection on food stuffs is very limited. Muffins, cookies and other typical coffee shop items. One thing to note is that Iowa Public Radio will host live bands at this location and that is broadcasted over the weekend throughout Iowa. It is free to be part of the audience. Typically they showcase local bands from the State. You can see a list of upcoming performers here: http://iowapublicradio.org/javaBlend.phpGreat coffee, but I still have my gripes. Overall: 7/10
