Must visit place if you are in IOWA city. The falafel here will kill you before you eat it! The menu is very nicely tailored not only for people from middle east but from all over the world. The staff here is fast. They guide you all over through he menu and serves you with a lot of love and care
I’ve had some okay food here over the years, but it’s pretty hit and miss. And it doesn’t matter when the place is so filthy that it’s hard to eat anything made there. Anything from the soda fountain tastes toxic. Try Petra instead.
Oasis Falafel is a restaurant that I have been going since 8 years. If you are in Iowa City and work in any of the departments close to the Pentacrest, its a few minutes walk (6m for me). I have been to this restaurant as a vegetarian only and later as someone who can eat anything in that restaurant. My experiences with the restaurant are nothing short of amazing for a very good eating place.Quality of Food:The owners here believe that fresh and high quality food is very important. When you order side dishes or appetizers such as Tabouleh, Chick-pea salad, eggplant salad or french fries, you will realize that the quality is top notch. The crispiness of french fries or the freshness of cilantro in Tabouleh is incredible. Similarly if you order the falafel, its made right when you place the order, so are the chicken, lamb or beef kabobs. The hummus, baba ghanoush or tahini are all very fresh too.Taste of Food:i cannot stress how tasty the food here is. The falafel, hummus, baba ghanoush are nothing short of excellent. I have tried a few places in US (SFO, Chicago, Las Vegas, Charlotte, etc) and have never found something that is better than this falafel. This purely my opinion. Other readers might disagree with me, which is fine by the way. One of the speciality of this place are the mango mustard, red and green cabbage salad and pepper mix. You combine all the four and add tahini to this salad, it becomes one of the most incredible tasting combination. The hummus a really creamy and tastes very good. The combination of french fries and hummus is a killer and almost always must eat for me. If you are new to this restaurant, I would suggest you try this for sure. The food is not very hot/spicy (as its not supposed to be).One thing I am not sure are the gyros as I have never tried those in this joint.Ambience of the restaurant:Only one aspect of this restaurant is that its loud. If you go during lunch hours and if there are a good number of patrons in this restaurant and are speaking with their friends/family/acquaintances then you will feel that its loud. The sound-proofing is not so good here. The waiters bring your food on time and are courteous. Mind you this is not a restaurant with a la carte. You order at the counter and once the food is ready, they bring it to you.
