Tasty Treats. I absolutely love this bakery! Most of the desserts have either almond paste or sliced almonds, but they’re so wonderful! They also have buns and breads available. Everything I’ve ever had from this bakery has been delicious and I highly recommend it to anyone in search of a unique Dutch treat.
Be prepared to stand in line. This is one of the most beloved shops in Pella, and there’s always a line. A farly confusing line, but we never leave empty handed, so it must work out ok. The dutch letters (pastry, sugar, almond filling) are popular and about $2 each. I don’t care for Dutch letters, but people who like them swear by them. What I like is chocolate. Or butter cream. A good way to get both is to order the little chocolate coated towers called bee hives: A small circle of cake, a huge dollop of butter cream, then coat it all in chocolate. Oh my God. So decadent: About $2. Ask for a fork…Also excellent is the Apple Bread. Slice the loaf when you get home, and put some butter on it. If they run out of fresh loaves and offer you a frozen, thawed loaf, skip it. Not as good. There’s no place to eat inside Jaarsma; walk across to the park and sit on a bench. Or in your car.
