Nice find. The chips and salsa hit the table as quickly as our butts hit the booth, and the salsa was spot-on. Real cornhusks died in the production of the tamales–muy sabrosos. They had just enough masa and a great meat filling. Reasonable price, even with a lovely margarita added. Two of us got out the door for under $25.

Just bad from start to finish!. I have been to many Mexican restaurants, west mex, tex mex, authentic and not so authentic and this place fits in to none of those categories. The host that seated up was rude, no smile, no eye contact. The waiter had a very thick accent and wasn’t friendly either. He messed up our drink order, gave my son a to go cup of warm water with lemon when he wanted Sprite. Told us we couldn’t order off the lunch menu because lunch was over in 3 minutes and it only got worse from there. I ordered Chimichangas with shredded beef, one of my absolute favorites. The beef had a good flavor and the texture of beef jerky, my plate was half lettuce, I got maybe a tablespoon of sour cream and guacamole and my tortillas were tough as tire rubber. I took two bites and asked the waiter to take my plate because I didn’t like it. I clearly didn’t eat it and was still charged and made to pay for it. My daughter had the enchilada with ground beef and ate about half just out of respect for me…she couldn’t stomach it either. this was a BIG mistake. I have heard this place is wonderful but out of out party it two out of three thumbs down, WAY down! Skip this place….

Love it!. I have never been disappointed at Monterrey! The fajitas for two are delicious with enough leftover for two more! The Happy burrito is another favorite, again enough to take home leftovers. Prices are reasonable, service is outstanding! You are greeted, have your drink, chips and salsa within 5 minutes of walking in!! You never have to look for your waiter because they are there before you even know you need something-they already have it!

Good Food, Fast. I love this place. The service is insanely fast, even if the restaurant is busy. They always keep your chips and salsa bowl full, which is always good. I always get the chicken fajitas and am never disappointed. This is where I go when I want a good value and tasty Mexican food FAST.

Some of the worst in Siouxland. The Sioux City metro area has many, many Mexican restaurants and taqueria’s–some authentic, some not. Monterey is quite possibly one of the worst Mexican food experience you could have. The food is bland, sauces are watery, and several of the dishes ordered at our table had been microwaved to the point where they were surface of the sun hot and the flavor had been nuked out.
