Order wrong. Sometimes Gates is good sometimes it is not. New Year Eve was not! I ordered 2 mixed plates one sub turkey for ham and lean beef both with crispy fries. Both had turkey and both had very little turkey barely enough for a sandwich. Nice portion of beef though and was lean like I asked. The only thing right I asked for. Ribs were dried out. One bone was cut off or something. The fries were not crispy. They were very soft and pale looking. To pay dam near $50 this was a rip off! I love Gates sauce that is it! Have always been a Gate fan and hated to hear people talk bad about them. Love supporting black businesses but through the years Gates have became a hit and miss. Prices keep going up and quality keep going down. My friend just said our food looked like left overs. It will be a while before I come back. Hopefully it will be better if not I will just be using Gates sauce at home on my food!
Ghetto Service. My usual order is a slap, mix plate and fries to go ($50.00 plus). Last visit after getting home, I notice there were no fries. Keep in mine it is over a 60 miles round trip for me. I called the KCKS location and was advised, I could pick up the fries on my next visit. I found that to be untrue upon my next visit. The manager made me feel like I was trying to beat her out of an order of fries. So, I took my money else where and will never spend another dime at the Gates on State St. in KCKS.
Gates SUCKS. The food is nasty. The BBQ sauce looks bloody and taste as bad as the service. The rude service is just stupid!
Poor quantity. Overly priced, not enough bbq work 2 hard just wanted a good lunch watch out u bbq lovers was very disappointed 10th st. Just isn’t it!!!!!!!!!!
I’m gonna try not to curse. I went to Gates after the doorman at the Westin gave it the thumbs up. To cut to the chase, Gates is the shhhhht. If you like NC BBQ, you’ll love them. If you are one of those dry rub people, go get an education at Gates. This is how it should be done. You smell the smoke when you walk in. I went there before a meeting and throughout my negotiations, I smelled like some delicious hickory flavor! The chics working at the front could give an efffff if I was there or not, and that’s just how I like it. Give me the food and keep your fakery to yourself. I’m going back tomorrow before my flight outta KC. Oh… Get some better fries Gates owners. Yeah…there’s that. Oh… Damn that is a big cup of soda!
Ehhh. Kansas is known for our bbque and gates is a well known famous restaurant however I wasn’t impressed. …not because the cashiers yell at you (I think it’s funny n different) but because of the lack of love that is put into the food is lil to none. my check was pretty pricey for a not so good rib meal. sauce is good but I will not be coming back. I’ll buy the sauce instead and make my own bbq
