Walking into Baan Thai, ones first thoughts probably wouldnt be this is a Thai restaurant due to the very modern looking dcor. I had to double check that we were in the right place. Small hanging lights in tiny bubbles made of glass hung around some of the larger tables. There was a lot of empty seating, with a couple larger parties and a few scattered couples. If it werent for the rain, the spacious patio would be the ideal place to sit. The subtle smell of different curries and spices filled the air, only enticing my taste buds for what was to come. As the host was helping another couple find their seat, I browsed the large, slightly dated looking menu, and was happily surprised by the large selection of different appetizers, entrees and drinks. There were only two staff members serving the few groups of people, and they seemed stressed due to the lack of help. The host greeted us warmly and we were seated promptly, only to wait around 10 minutes before our server welcomed us, apologizing for making us wait, as well as in advance due to the lack of staffing. I asked for her recommendation between two different appetizers, and she seemed kind of lost by the question. After taking our order, it took another five minutes before our drinks arrived. The iced Thai tea I ordered, priced at $2.50, was very sweet and creamy, maybe a little too sweet for my tastes, but tasted very authentic. Shortly after the drinks arrived, the appetizer, Tiger Cry Beef ($7.95) was served, and was by far my favorite part of the meal. The flavor came entirely from the slender, tender slices of beef, which was served with a spicy dip that didnt offer too much for flavor, but really added some heat, and was garnished with a small bed of cabbage and carrot slices. I really enjoyed the added heat from the sauce, but if spice isnt your thing, avoiding the sauce doesnt keep you from enjoying the bold flavor the beef offered. Before we had time to really enjoy our appetizer, the entrees were served, and the appetizer pushed aside to make room on the table. If it were a full table, it would have left little room, but thankfully it was only the two of us dining, so plenty of room to spare. The Peanut Curry with Beef ($12.75) had a light sweetness to it, with a subtle heat that built up with each bite. The beef looked the color of chicken, but was well cooked, and paired well with the green peppers that absorbed the sauce like little flavor sponges. If only they added some more of the peppers to the dish. The rice was slightly dry, but when paired with the sauce, soaked up all the flavor and was a great compliment. The Baan Thai Shrimp was my favorite of the entrees that were ordered, having a fantastically bold flavor with a hint of sweetness. The sauted bed of yellow and green onions, bell peppers and mushrooms were bursting with flavor. The only complaint I had about the dish was that the shrimp were served with their tails, not allowing you to pick one up and eat it in unison with the rest of the dish, but were still flavored wonderfully and delicious. After we finished up our meal, we asked for to go containers (which were very sturdy and much better than your typical to go box!), and ordered the $5.75 dessert sweet rice with mango. The rice was fantastic on its own, not being overbearingly sweet, and the fresh sliced mango complimented it extraordinarily well. All in all, I was very impressed with my experience at Baan Thai. The slow start was made up by the efficiency of the kitchen and how quickly they pushed out our delicious food. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants a fantastic meal, and will definitely be back again to explore their large selection. Welcome to Lawrence Thai Baan. My kids came out from Kansas City , where they have dined at a number of Thai restaurants, and they thought Baan one of the best they’ve ever had. A pleasant environment and very welcoming, friendly helpful staff and really tasty food. (food ranges from spicy to the very mild). sorry we didn’t take a picture of the fried raspberry ice cream. not only attractive but a wonderful light dessert to finish a terrific meal.

The food at Baan Thai was great and it was very reasonably priced. The place is located downtown on mass so it’s cool for a nice dinner or just going out with the family. I am extremely happy that this place is open! I used to go to the other Thai place in town (Thai Siam) which had the worst service and I will never go there again since this place is open
