Visiting my daughter in Lawrence, we went to lunch at Dempsey’s. It was my kind of place. It’s a bar/pub with a well worn but authentic interior. Beer selection was good. Lot of locals which is what I’m always looking for. It’s basically a burger joint but offers other items as well. We had five in our party, each ordering burgers accept for one who ordered wings. They are known for their fries so we got three baskets of each kind to try out. Our beers came quickly, but no food for over 45 minutes. We were enjoying ourselves and have each worked in the food service so we weren’t really bothered. When we asked our waitress to check on our order, she came back saying our food was in the window and would be right back. Fifteen minutes later (times are not exaggerated) still no food. My wife tracked down the waitress to check again and she said she was just about to bring our food over. All the burgers were warm but not hot and all the fries were cold and no wings were delivered. We politely asked for different fries, and she brought one baskets of simple frie, not any one of the three types we ordered. She then brought the wings though they were not the flavor ordered, She apologized and said she would comp the fries. After eating our luke warm burgers and cold fries the bill had no comp on it. I asked if she could, and she comp only one $4 basket stating management wouldn’t let her do any more. We’ve all had our bad days at work and my group is the forgiving kind so I gave her my usual 20% (it wasn’t her fault) and left. The two stars represent the poor customer appreciation the management that day showed to us. Show some pride in your product and service. I left truly wondering if Dempsey’s really cares about what they put on their plates, or just the Benjamins (our bill was $100.00).
