With all the dining options on Mass in LFK, they’ve chosen to announce their presence with a giant yellow banner. I’m not sure what to say about that except… doesn’t anyone paint windows anymore? Once beyond the front door you find a cozy interior with booths and tables waiting. Our server was courteous and speedy. We told her we were there to share items so we could try more of the menu and she immediately brought extra plates and napkins and suggested that we tried both the lentil soup and greek salad that came with our meal. This young lady didn’t miss a beat. I love a server who takes pride in her work. The Krass pastry is a richer version of spanakopita. Delicate turnovers of phyllo, spinach and cheese baked until flaky. Delicious. We let our eyes be bigger than our appetites and ordered the Jerusalem Dinner Feast. As we stuff our faces with bite after tasty bite, we comment that it’s probably not a bad idea to bring a third person next visit! Mediterranean food is ideal to share over conversation. The hummus is always good. But the real stand out on the first plate was the falafel. If you don’t care for these chickpea fritters it’s only because you haven’t tried the ones at the Cafe. The dolmades left something to be desired. The tomato topping distracts from the stuffing in my opinion, but to be fair dolmades aren’t a personal favorite. The next plate was an assortment of meat on skewers and rice. All delicious. The lamb and chicken were a touch on the dry side, but we were so impressed by the kifta it was a non issue. Not exactly the most attractive thing to be served, kifta is ground beef, parsley and seasonings formed on a skewer. A bit chewy in texture but excellent flavor. I was so happy there were 2 of these! This is an ideal spot for a date night or foodie friends to gather and share. They are friendly, clean, and reasonably priced. Jerusalem Cafe is a wonderful addition to the collection of Mass street restaurants. Long may they serve!
