Not great. I ate at La Parilla on a Tuesday night. The atmosphere was acceptable, although a little loud, considering it was not very busy. The wait staff was kind and earnest but harried, overworked, and not knowledgeable about the menu. At one point, I witnessed an annoyed couple forced to seek out a waiter and ask for the check because they had been ignored going on 30 minutes. I asked our waiter to substitute grilled vegetables in a meat dish, as I am a vegetarian. The waiter said he wasn’t sure it couldn’t be done (I’m not sure why, it’s a simple procedure) and had to check with the chef. The chef said the substitute could be made but then I found a piece of meat in my dish. Total anathema to vegetarians! I don’t understand why that would be hard to do, especially in a town like Lawrence. I have noticed that Genovese and Zen Zero don’t offer a lot of vegetarian option either. The other problem was that the waiter brought us two of the same dish when we made it clear we were going to split the one dish between my dining partner and I. Overall, I am not much impressed with this trio of restaurants (all owned by the same person) and can’t recommend them.
