Enjoyable. I ate dinner at WheatFields yesterday evening, and enjoyed both the food and the quiet atmosphere. I don’t know why people don’t seem to go here for dinner, because the food was rather good, and from what I read it’s quite a popular place for breakfast and lunch. What I had planned on ordering (a Thai chicken satay) was sold out, so instead I went with their blackened tilapia dish, which was served atop a huge bed of grits – we’re talking California king-size here, there was a lot – and a small side of collard greens. The collards were good, even though they were not what I was used to as far as collards go. They were cooked with a ton of garlic, bacon, and onions, to the point that the collards were fairly well an afterthought taste in the dish, but seriously, if you’re going to overpower something, bacon and garlic are pretty good choices as far as my tastes go. The grits were curious to me, but not in a bad way, they were good, too. I’m not sure I’m going to do the description justice, but the texture was not gritty, even though the individual grits contributed texture. It was sort of custardy in a way, without being gelatinous. I enjoyed it. And the tilapia was cooked properly, its blackened seasoning neither too spicy nor boring. Overall a pretty good meal to me. One things to note is that there is a self-serve beverage station there, but in my experience, this was nice as I could just fill up my water when I needed some more. I didn’t have to wait around on a waitperson who was busy or forgetful, but I could see it being a little annoying if you’re wading through a crowd of people during their busier hours. I can see why this is a Lawrence staple.

Classic. Wheatfields is a Lawrence staple and the star of their show is the baked goods. The breads are wonderful, as are the empanadas and cookies. The sandwiches are good, always quality food. It’s not the most exciting food in the world, but it is well done and appeals to a range of taste buds. Atmosphere: bright, busy, casual. During rushes, there is often not enough seating, so if you’re there at 12:30pm, you may have to get it to go or just wait for a bit before you can sit down. It’s counter-ordering style. DINNER! Go here for dinner; it’s rarely ever busy, the menu is always delicious, and as former service staff for many years, I enjoy being able to go out and sit down to eat without having to add a larger tip onto my meal expense. (It’s counter ordering)Breakfast: Meh. I know lots of people who really love their breakfast, but I’ve always been underwhelmed at best and disappointed at worst. I haven’t been for breakfast in a year or so, so take that for what it’s worth.

Love. So much love for WheatFields I don’t even know where to begin! Sandwiches- awesome. Quiches- crazy good. Breakfast menu- can’t go wrong. Cookies, scones, cakes- wow. Even their salad is one of my favorites in Lawrence. Try the chicken salad sandwich, you won’t be disappointed!

Awesome.. Don’t let the hipsters scare you away! This little bakery is absolutely phenomenal! My fiance drags (figuratively) me here every time he gets a chance, and I can’t complain! Their biscuits and gravy are TO DIE for! I don’t know how they do it, but they are beyond delicious! Same goes for their cinnamon rolls. They are perfectly cooked and never dry!

Delicious. I;ve tried several kinds of bread as well as their biscuits and gravy. Honestly the biscuits and gravy are the best breakfast food in the world.
