I don’t get it. It was fine but that is it. No way does this belong in discussion with Joe’s or Q39 as KC’s best. Maybe 10 years ago it did, but not now. Hard to write anything specific because nothing stood out. It wasn’t bad it just wasn’t the greatness as others had suggested. Me thinks that is nostalgia clouding the palates of BBQ fans.
Best BBQ in KC. I know people are very picky about their BBQ here, but Gates is my favorite. It doesn’t change and I don’t want it to. Just straight up awesome BBQ for excellent prices. You need to get their Beef on Bun. Love it.
Burnt what?. I don’t know what I was served when I ordered 5 burnt end sandwiches, for myself and my family, but it was not brisket ends. The meat was chopped so small that you could not tell what you were eating. It was very greasy and my husband almost broke a tooth biting down on a bone that was in the burnt ends. I have had plenty of burnt ends but none like this, which is not necessarily a good thing. I came from out of town and this was definitely one of my worst experiences for Memorial Day weekend. This is the last time I will be spending my hard earned money at Gates.

Good portions-very different sauce-not as sweet and smokey as traditional KC sauce- more vinegar flavored. Sausage was good. Brisket was fine but not as good as other KC BBQ places. Atmosphere was a bit run down but not with the cool dive feel.
NO you may not help me!. It’s bad enough that they slop that nasty sauce all over the meat. Then you over pay for it. Low quality meat and poorly cooked.
This is most likely the WORST BBQ I have had in KC. I had the burnt ends sandwich. The meat was overly burned to the point of being like eating salty charcoal. That sauce is also very salty and the bread is just a cheap hotdog bun. What a terrible place to eat. Will never come back.
