Meh…. I went tonight and it was just ok. Burger wasn’t bad but wasn’t that great. Fries were just the usually bar food French fry. We went at dinner time and it was just us and one other table….odd for a Friday night The decor was clearly from the previous Chinese place….seems sorta strange. We ordered one of their giant cinnamon rolls and it wasn’t good at all. The pie we ordered was edible but not much more than that. There was a huge pile of boxes behind the bar that shouldn’t be seen. Would I go back?…maybe if I was in the area and i would order something different. Would I drive 30 mins one way? No. I will say the waitress was nice and hustled her butt off!
I went to Downtown Diner 12/6/2014 we had to wait along time for our food then realized everyone around me that came in after us got there food before we did, I asked our server why this was and was told that it was because we had a big family (2 adults 5 kids) they want to get out the smaller groups first which was 3 different tables. There food is overpriced and services is not that good. I don’t recommend this place.
Wonderful Place To Eat. My family and I eat here often on Sundays after church. We love the food good hometown diner!! Wonderful staff always friendly. We were in this past Sunday and I have 2 small daughters who are hard to please..the waitress was so so nice to try and accomodate the pancakes just they way they wanted them. Thank you so much I hope you guys stick around for a long long time.
I would like to address Mike Porter’s review. Mr Porter you are correct on a few things in your review, my wife and did own the Double Nickel and the the last we heard they are still using our menu that we created. The Heartstopper and Fatboy are burgers that I created. As to your juicy Lucy I am sorry that it was not as you would have liked it and it sounds like I would not have liked it either. Please come by at your leisure and allow me to buy you lunch. I do remember the day you were there, I was training a new cook that day and it is my fault I did not check the order before it went out. I apologize for that. Disappointing Diner. Went for lunch w/ 4 co-workers because I heard the cooks had something to do with the Double Nickel, which is a place we like to go about once a week. The menu definitely reflects that with the same signature burgers such as the juicy lucy, fat boy, and the heart stopper. Having already had a heart stopper that week at the Nickel I decided to compare the juicy lucy, one of my favorites from the nickel and a burger I like to make at home myself. I knew something was off when the burger showed up in a pool of greasy cheese, and sure enough, the burger was completely void of any cheese inside when I bit into it. After we did finish ( i didn’t even end up finishing my overdone burger) the waitress came by to ask about re-fills but never took away any plates. So after over 10 minutes of staring at plates and not getting a check, we went up front ourselves to take care of things and the cook or owner or whoever asked how I liked by burger and I told her that all of the cheese was cooked out and that it was just like eating a big dry burger. She then made a face like it was my own fault for not liking the bad food I got, and from what I’ve heard these people aren’t good about taking any constructive criticism. They think their food is great and get offended at anyone who thinks otherwise. I once had a bad burger from the nickel on a day when they had a new cook starting and my meal was free. This woman made absolutely no offer to fix things. We won’t be going back again. If I’m in the mood for good breakfast food I’ll go a couple blocks east to Mom’s diner, and if I’m in the mood for a burger I’ll head about 1.5 miles east to go to the Double Nickel.
Average at best. Had biscuits and gravy that were ok. Couldn’t get past the chinese printed tables(previous tenant). Very odd decorating. Keep on driving….
Best Place for good Scratch Eat’s. I have been coming to the Downtown Diner in Olathe, at least once a week for the last few months. I have never had a bad meal, and the service is the best. The Owners Richard, and Sue work very hard at all Scratch Cooking to please there customers. The Pancakes, are probably some of the best since Waid’s closed in Olathe, but The French Toast is a masterpeace, with cinamon and sugar. Other intresting items on the breakfest menu, include Huevos Rancheros, and a nice line up of several type of Benedict’s. If your ever around Downtown Olathe at Lunch time, Downtown Diner is probably one of your best choices. The have an extencive Burger menu, with 12 diffrent creative choices. The Sandwiches, and Wraps are just as good as well. For an intresting Dinner try the Smoked Meatloaf, or Chicken Carbonara. In this time of prossesd fast food, Downtown Diner is a nice change from the ordinary.
