Disappointment. We went to dinner with high hopes of getting a yummy, home-style dinner. I had the Southern Fried Chicken, my mom the crab legs. We chose potato wedges as our sides; onion rings as an appetizer. The coleslaw, beans and hushpuppies were brought to our table on arrival. They were the best part of the meal, though the beans were barely warm. The onion rings were so-so. The crab legs were okay. The fried chicken was cooked earlier in the day, if not earlier in the week. It was dry (think fried cardboard) and tasteless and nowhere close to hot. The same can be said of the potato wedges. After the less than satisfying meal we weren’t willing to give dessert a try. We’ll be giving this one a pass in the future.

Consistently good food, generous portions, friendly servers, and reasonable prices. Can’t think of anything negative to say about the restaurant. We’ve got about a 15 minute drive from where we live, but we don’t mind the drive and haven’t for as long as we started going there…years ago.

Catfish, hush puppies, & beans were good. Place was busy, but we only waited a few minutes before we were seated. Service was fast, a man I thought might be the owner was out front taking names, seating people & checking how people were doing.Yeah maybe the decor is outdated, but it is, after all, a catfish place.

Disappointed. I had high hopes for this catfish restaurant. I went with my extended family and ordered the Cajun Style Catfish fillets. Our waitress was friendly and attentive and the orders came out in a respectable amount of time.My fillets were quite good, spicy but not overly so, moist and well cooked. But the remaining sides (baked potato, cole slaw & navy beans) were just okay, nothing spectacular. The hush puppies were dry and tasteless which is too bad, as I was really looking forward to hush puppies. Then as we were paying, my sister-in-law tried to use the remaining value on an expired Groupon and the cashier would not accept it, stating that the owner would not accept the face value of the Groupon once it had expired, contrary to the agreement with Groupon. Given the mediocre food and Groupon thing, our family will not be going back.

Has great catfish AND. I don’t like catfish. My experience is that catfish has a strong, fishy taste but it definately does not here. I even ordered a catfish platter and I usually don’t order anything seafood other than shrimp. Oddly, my daughter loves the chicken fried steak. I do enjoy the hushpuppies and cole slaw brought out before the meal. Granted the decor leaves something to be desired, but the food is pretty good.

More beans than Fish. When your a kid you think this is the greatest place on earth but as you grow older you realize they are trying to fill you up on navy beans, corn bread and slaw a half hour before you get your fish. It’s also a little pricey for fried catfish.

A sad, tired affair…. Imagine a hunting lodge decorated in 1985 and not cleaned or redecorated since, and you will have an accurate impression of Jumpin Catfish in Olathe. Upon walking in the restaurant, the customer is greeted by a pungent odor which can best be described by a combination of moldy carpet, decaying mounted and stuffed animals (which adorn every nook and cranny of this the front of the house and eerily stare at you while you try to eat) and old frying oil. It really is very strong and the nose does not become accustomed to this odor during the dining experience. Our menu was sticky and filthy. The menu line-up actually is a little adventuresome, with selections of elk and quail — dishes one doesn’t often find in a suburban dining establishment. Sadly, the food turns out to be anything but. Our server, who was very attentive, greeted us with heaping serving bowls of uninspired, watery cole slaw and ham and beans. This is Jumpin’ Catfish’s equivalent of free appetizer bread or chips that many restaurants serve patrons. Cole slaw and ham and beans (!) — I was struck at the randomness of these choices and was immediately concerned the talent of the person running the kitchen. My family and I ordered standard fare for a seafood establishment — my wife crab legs, I stuffed crab, my son fried shrimp . Our orders were completed fast, our food served hot. Unfortunately, I have little else complimentary to share. Both the shrimp and stuffed crab were clearly pre battered and tasted as though they had been frozen for some time prior to getting a quick toss in the deep fryer just before serving. My wife’s crab legs also tasted as though they had been frozen for some time — they were very bland and the accompanying clarified butter served lukewarm. I could not finish my meal — and this is saying something as I generally leave my plates clean. We were there on a weekday for lunch and business was very slow. I fear for the future of this restaurant if the owners don’t realize both the front of the house and the kitchen need a serious revamp. I understand Gordon Ramsey is looking for restaurants to assist for the next season of Kitchen Nightmares — he deserves a call on behalf of this place.
