Possibly the grumpiest store owners in Olathe, Sam’s Tastee Treat is an experience. Classic mom and pop burger and ice cream place. It’s in an iconic building and when you walk in you aren’t greeted with a clean atmosphere. Posters and wall hangings that have been up so long the edges are yellowed. The food is hit or miss. They offer odd items like crab rangoon and burritos that have been good. But I have also ordered egg rolls that were filled with burrito stuffing and told that’s they way they always are (not last time though). Don’t bother to complain unless you want to listen to a defensive diatribe that may or may not end in the owner insulting you. They have really good soft serve ice cream and a daily burger special. Dine at your own risk but only if you have cash.

Best Soft Serve – Hands Down!. We just go for the soft serve ice cream – wonderful! Bring cash – they don’t take debit or credit cards!
Old-school hamburger joint. I’ve only been to Sam’s Tastee Treat once. I did enjoy it, but it certainly wasn’t the best in town. On my visit there seemed to be a little burger to bun ratio problem. I wouldn’t really say it was a case of the burger being too small…just that the bun was too big for the burger they served (if that makes sense). I really like the look and style of the place. It is an old-school burger joint with, at the time I went (a while ago) they had a few non-burger joint items such as crab rangoon and egg rolls: one of the owners is Japanese which apparently accounts for this, although crab rangoons are not really Japanese. Anyway, to end the rambling, I liked it, but it wasn’t the best. Again, I’ve only been there once and really need to make it back. I do appreciate the old-school style so check it out and write a review.
