Sliders of a Different Flavor. This burger joint is about two miles south of I-70, just west of Topeka. If you are travelling between Kansas City and Denver it is worth a stop for some basic burgers. There is very limited seating inside, five stools, but there are umbrellaed picnic tables outdoors if the weather is cooperative. We were unsure of how many burgers to order for five people, they set us up with two each until we told them to stop. These are like White Castle/Krystal burgers, but slightly thicker patties, with denser buns. Cheese is NOT an option. Four or five burgers are really all you should eat, especially if you have a long drive ahead. Crinkle fries would taste better as a side, but the individual bags of chips are good enough. It offers that salty crunch that a burger needs, and allows you to focus on the beef. I will stop by the next time I’m in the neighborhood to see if the memory fits reality.

Where’s the beef?. Sometimes you want a burger with lots of toppings, other times you just want a basic burger that showcases the beef. With such a simple menu, that’s what I was expecting: well seasoned beef, grilled onions, on a bun. That’s the only thing on the menu, so the cook has one job! Sadly, the onions, though well cooked, were so plentiful that the beef was entirely overpowered. I wanted so badly to like this little dive, but that was not a tasty burger (or 4 as the case may be).
Great service, friendly staff. Very tasty burgers, and great smells.
A Very Old Small Hamburger Place. This is an old time establishment in downtown that serves those small hamburgers that some people like and others do not care for. This place has been around for years and the interior of the restaurant will quickly confirm that. The burgers are cooked at a small grill that is right next to the outside window. There are six stools for customers to sit at, or you can go outside and go to the walk up window and order your burgers there. In addition there are a limited number of outside tables along the front sidewalk. I for one like the small hamburgers covered with onions and a single slice of pickle. They are cooked right as you watch and served hot. Don’t try to order any additional food as there is none. At 89 cents some will also think the price is high and they may be correct. We went because it is an old historical place in downtown and we like to visit those places. The area could be a little more tidy.
This place is great. They only have hamburgers. No cheese, fries, or fluff. You can get chips and a can of soda. But if you can get over yourself and just go with the flow you will get some good food. Oh and it is cozy so if you need some space I would sit outside.
Don’t miss this slice of old Americana in downtown Salina, Kansas! The menu is simple – sliders and chips and it hasn’t changed in 90 years. Packed with locals who come in, order 6, 12, or more to go in a cute white paper sack with the unique Cozy Inn logo. They serve thousands of these each week and have done this non-stop for years! You gotta try it!
