Diner Comfort Food. This is an old school diner experience. If you want the new fad of mango kiwi waffles or organic green tea, this is not the place for you. This is old fashioned diner food at its best. Yes, it is a bit greasy. Yes, it doesn’t have the local farm fresh fruits and vegetables. But if you want yummy chicken fried steak, cinnamon rolls and biscuits and gravy then this is the place for you!
Overrated. Every single item is saturated in butter and the ingredients are not fresh.
Good place to eat. Love their omelettes. Casual atmosphere, clean. Except check the silverware – spoons usually seem to be dirty.
The food was good, but being a breakfast restaurant I expected more breakfast food and the menu was pretty even on breakfast and lunch food. Go back: probably.
Best Breakfast. I remember when i was a little kid eating breakfast here with my grandfather. He died when i was 7, but some how i remembered this place. I drove past and something in my mind clicked, i have seen the lighthouse some where before. when i pulled in i remembered the parking lot behind the eagle newspaper. i walked inside and i remember comming here with my grandfather and sitting at a large round table. i was probably 6 the last time i ate here, but i remembered breakfast and buffalo. they have a breakfast special that is a piece of meat ( i ordered ham, i hate ham but it was great) on top of an english muffin topped with an egg (i like it over hard) and cheese with a potato. It was amazing that after 14 years after my grandfather died i remembered him, and who i thought was my grandmother (ended up being his girlfriend because they were divorced by then), i remembered the food. this place not only has sentimental value to it for me, but it has the best breakfast hands down.Btw don’t order a salad, it is a breakfast and buffalo place.
Disappointed. I received a couple recommendations from some coworkers for The Beacon so we decided to try it this morning. My fiancee had the french toast and I had a sausage and cheese omelette with biscuits and gravy. The french toast was OK, but nothing to get excited about. My omelette was terrible. The sausage was very overcooked, and the eggs were not done very well either. The biscuit was pretty good, but the gravy was the same gravy that almost every restaurant in Wichita serves (including iHOP). In general, everything tasted rather processed or as if it had just come from a can as opposed to being made fresh. Our server was friendly and did a good job, but it took quite a while for our food to arrive. I suppose I can’t fault them for this too much, as it was a very busy Saturday morning.Bottom line is that there are MUCH better breakfast places in Wichita. If you’re looking for something in the same vicinity of Beacon, go to Egg Cetera. It’s about one block away and the food is MUCH better by comparison. If you wan’t something with the same atmosphere and better food, try Riverside Cafe.
Great food, service and price. Best place for breakfast in Wichita.
