I went here yesterday and had their Reuben sandwich with potato salad and an iced tea. The food is just okay, nothing special. I felt the portion sizes were a bit small for what I was paying. The side of potato salad amounted to two bites full, if that. Even the drinking glasses they use are ridiculously small. The place gets a little too much hype for what it is. I came to eat a meal and paid for a meal, they served me a snack.
Nice Little Cozy Eatery. Was a big fan of Old Mill Tasty Shop on my first trip there before a concert. It’s a very nice little restaurant off of Douglas. Give it a try, it’s worth your time and money! wichitabyeb.com
Shop was old timey and staff helpful and friendly. Food I thought was just so so. I orderd the chicken salad sandwich which they are known for and it was good but not anything special. The cup of green chili that cost 2.50 was about 50 cents worth of soup if that! Others ordered hot ham and cheese sandwiches and spinach salads. Overall it was good but not exceptional. I would recommend trying it and I will go back and give it another try.
I had dinner there last night. I ordered the special, which was chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes and green beans. None of the food was hot, only slightly warm at best. The chicken fried chicken had more breaking than meat and was burned on the bottom. My friend ordered the other special which was Lasagna. It was also burned on the bottom. We won’t go back again.
We felt like family and had a great experience, even though we were out of towners. We were in Wichita for my brother in laws wedding so spending a few days here gave us an exciting chance to try some local fare. We came across the Old Mill Tasty Shop given the great reviews on here so we went. Walking in reminded me of an old soda shop back home my grandmother and I used to visit in my childhood. The staff was friendly and we ordered the meatloaf special with scalloped potatoes (homemade) and green beans. The food was delicious and comforting with great flavors and the taste of freshness. You can tell it was made with love. But after lunch was what made this place special. If you are on vacation and like to relax and really take in the destination you are at, go here. We enjoyed a great conversation with the owners about the history of the restaurant, his love of food and the love that this place has for the community. We told them we were from TN and they even gave us a little of the chicken salad and tomato bisque to try, because it was their specialty. It was very very good and fresh! So if you are in Wichita and have some time to sit, relax and enjoy a great meal/conversation go here. They will treat you like family.
Great experience. We enjoy the food and service at this down town landmark. The building has an amazing feel. You can tell that decades of customers have been delighted and that joy permeates the walls and tables.
Horrible food. Ordered chicken and dumplings based upon waitress’ recommendation (because it’s made from scratch there). Terribly salty and dry…where’d all the liquid go to? The carrot cake was alright, but the inch of frosting was overkill. And that coming from someone who loves cream cheese frosting.
