I often stop by Jay’s when traveling from Owensboro to Madisonville, and my usual order is a cheeseburger (American cheese, white onions, tomatoes, lettuce, pickles and mayo), and a vanilla shake. Jay’s serves one of the best burgers in the area, and the shakes are absolutely delicious. The fries are simply average (crinkle-cut), so spend your money on other menu items.
I have eaten here countless times. For ten years I commuted between Owensboro and Madisonville KY and usually stopped by Jays three or four times a week. It is a standard old-school burger joint staffed by very friendly locals who call you by your first name. I have honestly never had a single thing that I did not like. My favorites were the double cheeseburger through the garden, fish sandwich and the chuckwagon (breaded pork patty, order it with mayo, tomato and lettuce). If I were forced at gun point to complain about something that they serve I would reluctantly have to say the chili but only because they put macaroni in it.

Best burgers in the world. I have lived all over the US and have been many places overseas and I have never had a hamburger that was better than Jays. It’s truly amazing that such a simple and perfect burger would be had in such a small town and in such an out of the way place. When I tell people the best burger I’ve ever eaten is in a tiny little joint attached to a laundry-mat, they look at me like I’m crazy. I only get back there once every few years, but every time I do, Jays is one of my stops and it’s always great!
Love at first bite. My husband introduced me to this place when we were still dating. his family is from calhoun, so we took quite a few trips down there. and typing this right now is making me want to pack up the kids, drive down there and get a few burgers. let me add – i am not a hamburger person. there are very few places i will eat a hamburger from. thin, crispy and juicy are the three words i use to describe these burgers. i read another review talking about the peanut butter milkshakes.. and yes they are to die for. definitely my husbands favorite 🙂
Step Back in Time. If you want an old-fashioned cheeseburger and milkshake (and tots, not fries) then go to Jay’s. The food may not be healthy, but it’s delicious!
BEST BURGERS~PEANUT BUTTER MILKSHAKES~~~~. Jay’s Drive in Calhoun, Kentucky has the best cheeseburger’s in McLean County and across Kentucky!! They also have the best Peanut Butter Milkshake in McLean county and Kentucky! They have other great food BUT the ones I mention are my favorites there~
