We went for brunch today. I felt that our server was not very attentive and he had to come back to the table and ask us what we ordered, twice. I ordered the eggs Benedict and my poached eggs came hard boiled. My friend asked for extra syrup and he forgot that as well; we had to get his attention and remind him. I feel it’s overpriced and the food is ok at best.

Mold!!!!!. I ordered the French Dip Sandwich for lunch today and enjoyed over half of it before realizing there were several spots of mold on the bread. I called to complain and was not offered a refund, but I did let them know that I will not EVER return! Gross!

Great service. I have stopped at Bronte Bistro several times, for lunch and for dinner. The food is always good, the service is prompt and efficient, and the prices are comparable. This is a great place to relax with friends, or to sit alone and read and recharge.

A friend & I ate here tonight. We shared 4 pretty diverse appetizers, brie with caramel & walnuts, fried green tomatoes, stuffed mushrooms, & artichoke soup. Each one was more bland than the other. Regarding service, we saw our waiter when he took our order and when he dropped off our check. Blah.

Extremely Inconsistent Service. I have eaten at this cafe/bistro many times over the last 15 to 20 years and the only thing that is consistent is the inconsistent service. Sometimes it is good (I honestly can’t say I have had outstanding service here ever, but certainly adequate) and sometimes it is awful. The food is usually fine and they have some great desserts. If only I could count on a pleasant experience every time, I would dine here more often. Alas, I usually only go to Bronte when I sign up for my Joseph Beth Gives Back membership each year and get the $25 coupon for Bronte. Today’s experience was an example of terrible service. My husband and I went there for lunch while doing some Christmas shopping. Although it was a weekday, it was more crowded than we expected (with other Christmas shoppers no doubt), but not busting at the seams crowded. The host asked if we would like to sit in the bookstore area or the newly renovated area overlooking the water. I would like to add here that while he was not unfriendly, he did not smile, and indicated our seating choices by gesturing with the menus rather than articulating our choices, which was a little annoying and unprofessional. We told him we would love to sit by the windows overlooking the water and he promptly seated us.Everything went downhill from there. The waitress came to give us our menus and ask for our drink orders. She was a little abrupt and, again, not unfriendly, but no smile. I kind of felt bad for her because she really looked tired, sad, something, so I don’t fault her for the incredibly long wait time we had necessarily. Certainly it could have been the kitchen that was as slow as Christmas (ha ha). At any rate we sat there for the next 40 minutes or more waiting for a chicken salad sandwich with chips and roast beef sandwich with fries that never came. We had an appointment at 2:00 and needed to get our shopping completed there and at some other stores we had planned to go to so we ended up leaving. Our waitress did not charge us for our drinks which was nice. The thing that was so frustrating is that other customers that were seated after us ( by at least 10-15 minutes) received their meals while we sat there with nothing. How long can it really take to make a chicken salad and roast beef sandwich? We might go back later when not pressed for time ( I have a coupon I want to redeem before it expires). Maybe the next time will be the charm?
