Everything on the buffet was leftovers recycled. Prime rib was as dry as the Sahara. Fried chicken was below average. Ham on the salad bar was either pickled or expired. Breakfast portion of buffet was limited. Didn’t sample the omelet bar. Mac and cheese was less than satisfactory. As far as I am concerned, if you are going to charge over 21.95 per person, your buffet better be stellar for repeat patronage. The only thing going for it is the dcor. 1.5 stars is generous.

Inside the newly renovated Campbell House is a buffet-style brunch (it also offers plate lunches, etc.), and although it is expensive, it is a fun experience with large quantities of food to sample.Kilbern’s offers a fresh salad bar with black olives, banana peppers, bacon crumbles, egg, etc., with a variety of dressings, as well as fresh pasta salad and crab salad, which is unique for KY and a refreshing item for brunch (fresh crab, lightly mixed with mayo).Omelet and waffle bars are also available I ordered an omelet with shredded cheddar cheese, mushrooms, red peppers and onions, which hit the spot. The main buffet offered sliced to order roast beef dipped in au jus (tender roast, but under-seasoned); fish and rice, mashed potatoes and mac and cheese were bland, but overall, not bad in quality and taste; fried chicken was good, but likewise bland (not on the level of other restaurants like Merrick Inn, Wallace Station, etc.); bacon slightly overcooked, and biscuits and gravy seemed frozen; the highlight of my meal was the soup, which was a grilled chicken vegetable soup (with a heavily seasoned broth), with green celery, onions and tomatoes.

Underrated, undiscovered. The Kilbern is in the Campbell House hotel, which is probably why people haven’t discovered it. We think it has excellent food and great service. I wish more people would try it. The salmon was good, and so was the fried chicken. Not expensive, especially when you consider that they still include a salad with the meal. We’ve been many places in Lexington, and we’ll often choose Kilbern’s over other more well-known places. Comfort, and comfort food!Oh, and by the way, newly remodeled and beautiful!

One of the few Southern Dining Rooms around…. The Campbell House name is back (No longer Crowne Plaza) and still operates it’s signature Southern dining Room. The food is pretty average but not bad except for a few little glitches. Fried Chicken is over-priced (one breast) @ $15.Strip steak was pretty decent though not consistent (more the cow’s fault than the Chef’s)Pork medallions… well you expect them to be from the tenderloin and these were the loin. Not as impressive as it could have been.Pot stickers were good, Prepared on-site and steamed (took a little longer than expected)The property was sold this year and an employee said some upgrades thru out the hotel are going to b e made over the next year. Can’t wait. These Southern Dining rooms are few and far in between. This one can survive…. and it needs to survive.

The omelette guy on Sundays is always so kind! It’s well worth the money the fried chicken is the best

Very nice!. During the week they have a nice buffett with Salad bar, soups, desserts and entree’s. Nice selection, reasonable price $9.99 including your drink. Atmosphere is traditional Lexington. Don’t mind the gray hairs at the tables around you, they know a good deal too when they see it!

Lunch buffet. Good choice for a business lunch. If time is limited the buffet is both good and quick.
