Just ate the best empanada I’ve had stateside! The food is authentic, well prepared and very yummy. The couple running Old San Juan are charming and very appreciative of their patrons. If arriving at noon you may have to wait a bit, but so worth it. Their rice and black beans are wonderful. Loved the ropa vieja. Ambiance is plain and simple,but when the food is so good who cares. Try Old San Juan!!!
Service can be slow, and so be prepared to wait, but service is always friendly (and seating is limited)! Easily the best empanadas in town (check them out now!), which I always order with a refreshing mango milkshake – one of my favorite combos in Lexington. Also, Old San Juan serves an authentic Cubano (ham, Swiss cheese, roasted pork, mustard, pickles and butter) that is to die for. In my opinion, Brasabana serves better Ropa Vieja, and the Cuban bread toast is merely average.
