Buffet is &7.95. Home cooked food in an unassuming atmosphere. Highlights for me was the Salisbury steak and Salmon croquettes. Fried corn bread also excellent. Clean interior. Easy in and out of parking lot. Many vegetable options as well as salad. The slaw was very good. I also enjoyed the soup (pinto) beans, stewed cabbage and home fried potatos with onions. Interacted with owner and one female staff. They were very efficient, hard working and welcoming. Styrofoam plates and bowls, metal utinsels. Good, solid, tasty home cooked food. Comparable to Max’s Louden Square Buffet on the north side of town which is also great!
Disappointing! Do yourself a favor and venture across the street to visit Good Foods Market & Cafe, where you will be able to find fresh and healthy alternatives (at a comparable price and with smiling service) to Ruby Jean’s buffet. At 11:30 a.m., I was the only person in the restaurant, and now I know why. I honestly feel as if 95% of the buffet came directly from cans purchased at the nearby grocery (with no further preparation; simply from the can to the buffet).I am usually a fan of cafeteria-style restaurants, which can offer delicious options at reasonable prices in comfortable environments. This is not one of those places. Somewhat unclean, with tough chicken in its chicken and dumplings, extremely bland fried chicken, flat cornbread, and vegetables that had a layer of film on top from not being stirred for some time. I ate about half of my plate, paid, left, and walked to Old KY Chocolates to bring relief to my palate.
