Simply awful. Avoid this place at all costs. The bartenders are some of the least qualified people I’ve ever seen to hold those jobs. Unfortunately for Barleycorns, there isn’t anything else special enough about the place to overcome that, such as an abundance of attractive singles or cool ambiance.What’s my problem with the staff, you say? Dour attitudes or incompetence – and I worked in the industry for a long time, so I’m very patient. They fall into one of 2 camps1) They either look and act like serving beverages to you is the last thing they want to be doingor #2) they’re open to the idea, but just don’t know how to do it.Popping over closer to the mall, strip of restaurants on houston, or even the burger/beer place just up the road in union would not be 100x of a better option. Your only plus here is they’re open really late, but you don’t want to be there then…trust me on that.
Terrible, aweful, food. Ordered a French dip and received a terrible bun filled with greasy pot roast NOT sliced beef that was ment for such a Sammy. The cheese was unmelted Swiss. Service was great but not enough to make up for food. My family and I will find else where to eat from now on!
A dive. There are better places to eat. Not to mention folks can smoke in there. Not for kids or non smokers.
Service is good but food quality was poor. Needs to buy better food to serve. Owner is nice guy and came around to check on us. Good presentation on plate was bad.
Appetizer was good but a bit small for the 4-6 the server told us it would feed. My Black & Bleu Ribeye Sandwich was cooked and seasoned well. The hoagie roll was fresh and slightly toasted. Saratoga chips were great. Husband had the Frisco Burger and was pleased, although his medium looked more like rare. Friend’s Colossoal Pepperjack Burger was the star of the table and was huge. Server was friendly. Water ordered with mint leaves had several fresh sprigs; he brought extra paper and crayons for our kids and replaced a too sweet tea with soda for no charge.Only complaint was that we were asked if we wanted to be seated on the heated patio, only to find the heat was broken and spend the meal shivering.We would go again.
Food OK , beer over priced. Would love to visit more often..staff is friendly and fun to be around. Food is the same as other bar food in the immediate area…….Beef O’brady’s, Shakey’s, Buffalo Bob’s have much better beer and drink prices (specials) so why would I go to Barleycorns? Unless something changes…I would say it’s only a matter of time.
