Stopped here while passing through. Stopped to look at antiques and this was THE lunch place in town. Good reviews, so we thought we’d give it a try. As you might gather I’m a fried chicken junkie so guess what I got? They said that it would be a little bit of a wait as it was made to order. I had the mashed potatoes and cornbread for sides. The cornbread was good, but I really missed the syrup that these are served with further south. The mashed potatoes and gravy were serviceable but the Chicken was a bit disappointing. The crispy crust was the greasiest chicken I’ve had in a long time. The predominant flavor was oil and salt. The meat was moist. Wifey had the chicken fried steak and liked it, but it was greasy as well. Portions were ok and the price was reasonable.
Rude Staff. Upfront staff extremely rude and not worth the wait for mediocre food. Will not return.
Love it. Always great service and there’s a reason there’s a wait, it’s so delicious. Pork Chops are my favorite and the mashed potatoes I had tonight was the best I have ever had, ever. I can’t wait until our next visit. Our bill for 3 of us is usually about $35 but should be more. Better quality than a $110 dinner I had last weekend.
Worth the drive. This is worth the drive. There will probably be a wait, but it is worth it. I haven’t had any menu items that have disappointed me. I start with an order of fried green tomatoes (heavenly) and sweet tea. Then I follow with my favorite entre: meatloaf. It is beyond what you would expect due to the sweet tomato topping. I have never had any like it and it is a taste that always brings me back to Glendale. I like to order this with their green beans (home grown). The slaw is just okay, so another side would be my choice. Now comes the homemade pies. WOW. Take your pick, they are all great. My favorite is the peanut butter pie (smooth and creamy). This is a great place to bring a date or the family.
Never disappointed. Love the fried green tomatoes & fried pickles as a starter. Beef Manhattan is always a good choice and cheap ($6.99)! Sweet tea is always amazing. Wonderful, relaxing atmosphere. Staff always sweet & charming. Homemade pies are the absolute best, hands down! Never disappointed with the broccoli casserole & peanut butter pie! A must visit if in the Glendale/Hardin Co./I-65 Area 🙂
You won’t be sorry. My husband and I were traveling south and ended up finding this gem. The food is reasonably priced and the portions are insane! I ordered the chicken and dumplings. It came with 2 sides- mashed potatoes and green beans were my choice. I took most of it with me. My husband ordered the half chicken, which consisted of 2 chicken breasts and 2 wings, with 2 sides. Not to mention the bread and jelly that they serve before hand. I asked for the best dessert pick and the waitress (who was very friendly) said the carrot cake. She wasn’t wrong. It was not overly sweet the way some carrot cakes are and the frosting was thick, not gritty and absolutely divine. We take a lot of weekend trips and this will be one place we will return to again! The town also has several antique stores that should be explored!
