If I’m looking for a cheap fast meal this is my go to place. It’s Cajun in a very loose sense. The drunken chicken it’s actually really good. You can eat for about $10. It’s worth checking out.

This place is kind of a joke. I had gone a few times over the years but working for this one company they would order here all the time. Maybe it’s because I’m a southerner and I know what souther cooking looks like but they just shouldn’t call themselves j GUMBOS. This place is like the tex-mex of southern cooking and non seafood.
J gumbo’s gumbo. Go ahead, ask for gumbo. Go on I’m waiting… yeah they don’t have any. How can a place called gumbo’s not serve gumbo? That being said, the rest of the menu is delicious. Voodoo chicken is as spicy as any meal you’re going to get on the bayou.
Not too many places can make food spicy enough for me. However J. Gumbo’s Voodoo Chicken is always just the way I like it. I never have to add anything to it. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Good Gumbo. I love New Orleans, and in my visits I’ve come to love the food even more. J Gumbos delivers on a well priced and good, if not great, version of it. For example, the crawfish etoufee is a bit light on the delectable mud bug meat, but still very tasty, and if you are of a mind for a different protein, the chicken etoufee is pretty good and considerably meatier. I’ve tried most of the menu and find it well made, very fast (coming off a steam table) and tasty. One warning to folks who are sensitive to spicy food, if they say it is spicy, take them at their word. Atmosphere is very casual but pleasant, as is the service.
If you want a full-on sit down Cajun meal, then go to Joe’s Ok Bayou – but if you’re on a lunch break and looking for good sandwich, J Gumbo’s Drunken Chicken is a unique flavor that I have come to adore. We’ve tried several things on the menu, but I always come back to the Drunken Chicken Po Boy. It’s messy, so you’ll have to eat it open face, but it’s worth it. The etouffee was kinda bland, but I can also recommend the Voodoo Chicken, and the White Chili. The bread pudding was disappointing, so look for dessert elsewhere.
