Everything You Want in a Quick Service Restaurant. I have visited a few Penn Stations throughout the Louisville area and had never really received a decent experience. On my last limb, I came across the Blankenbaker Penn Station and decided to give it one last try and I was sort of expecting a bad experience. When I walked in, I was immediately greeted by the manager himself, who had a genuine smile on his face. We ended up getting into a short discussion about my experiences with other Penn Stations and I informed him of my dissatisfaction with them; in the end I could tell that he really knew how to communicate with his customers to ensure the full experience that guests are supposed to have. All of the staff had true, genuine smiles on their face and were very courteous to everyone. The store is very well kept, my order was out at a very reasonable time, it was hot, fresh and delicious; one of the best Penn Station subs I have ever had along with their freshly cooked fresh cut fries. This store really knows how to communicate with each other and their customers. Yes, some things may get mixed up or misheard or whatnot, but that is life. We are not all perfect but this store is very close to it. Unfortunately for me, I do not get to visit the Blankenbaker store very often because I do not live close to it, but I assure you that whenever I want a hot, appetizing Penn Station sub, I would definitely travel the distance just to this location because they have exceeded beyond my expectations on what a Quick Service Restaurant is really about. Thank you Blankenbaker Penn Station for renewing my confidence in your store. I’m glad I made the decision to give it another chance.
Great Service. I work down the street from Penn Station in JTown so I spend a lot of time in there because it’s close. I’ve been to a lot of other Penn Stations but none could match the Jtown branch. Employees are always smiling, my wait time is brief and most timportantly the manager knows his customers and is very acommodating to both the usuals and the first timers. . Just thought I’d let everyone know. The management and staff are doing fantastic
Philly Cheese Steak. I am never disappointed when I visit the Penn Station in J-town. The facility is very clean and organized and the staff is very prompt to take my order. The atmosphere is somewhat better than most fast food restaurants because they usually have some type of music playing or ESPN on the flat screen. The quality of the food is always fresh and cooked in front of my eyes. Quiznos and Subway do not compare because the food is not really cooked in the same fashion nor is the quality the same.
What more could you ask for?. I have been a customer at Penn Station for a few years now, and love the food. It’s all fresh meats, cheeses, and vegetables, including the fresh cut fries made from whole potatoes each day. I’ve been to almost every location in Louisville, and can confidently say this particular store has the best food and service. Every time I walk through the door, I am greeted by attentive staff members, who are efficient and friendly. I’ve never had to wait more than 6-7 minutes for my order (keep in mind those who complain about time issues that meals prepared at penn station start raw on a grill, if time is your main concern McDonald’s is across the street where you can get a nice frozen patty soaked with grease). The food is always wonderful, and hot. I always get an exceptional meal from this store. When you add in all the components: friendly and efficient service, food that’s hot and fresh, and a pleasant clean environment it certainly equals Penn station East Coast Subs on Blakenbaker Pkwy, what more could you ask for?
Clarification. I’ve worked at this Penn Station for several months now and can assure you that it is actually possible for orders to be rung up separately. The way our system works can complicate the process if you don’t specify that you’d like your orders separated in the beginning which is likely what happened in your case. Usually the person taking your order on the phone or in person will ask because this is one of the most common problems with the ordering process, but if you intend to have them paid for separately you should simply bring it to their attention in the beginning and it will be very easy and uncomplicated to do. As far as you missing a sandwich, this is something that doesn’t happen very often but does from time to time. Needless to say, problems of this nature will happen most often when the assembly line is stressed during lunch. I have worked at several other Penn Stations in the area and the Blankenbaker store is by far the best at making sandwiches as quick as possible. I’m not exaggerating when I say that even during a busy lunch, 95% of the sandwiches there will come out in less than 7 minutes. When you place your order, look at your watch. If you have waited 10 minutes feel free to ask a wrap run person or cashier to help find your ticket. Sometimes we have problems with similar-named people taking orders not meant for them, but our manager is more than happy to comp your meal if you are unsatisfied for any reason. Sorry about your experience and I hope you’ll bear with us and give us a second chance.
Foods Good – Service is Terrible. First let me say I am a huge fan of Penn Station, but with the other patrons who have left comments here this one seems to have some issues. The first problem I have with this store is they will not let you ring up separate orders, you have to put every sandwich all on one order and get it all at once. meaning if you are picking up lunch for the office (which a lot of people do because this location is in a frickin business park) then you have to have exact change for your order or the poor shlup that got stuck with picking it up has to work it out. My second issue is that the last time I went in to pick up a sandwich during the lunch rush they actually lost my order, as I sat and waited for 15 minutes for my to go order and watched people come in after and leave before me I finally brought it to their attention. The manager comped me and I got a free sandwich out of the deal but the fact that they just completely lost my order was absurd. Just thought I would drop this as I am on my way up there now to get a 5 sandwich order, lets see how this works out.
Why the bad score?. Annie and I live and work near this location and have always had good food and service here, even during the busy 12:30 lunch rush. It is no better or worse than any other Penn Station I have been to.For fast food, I don’t see how you can complain about the fresh meats being prepared in front of you and the fries being cut from whole potatoes in plain view. When you compare this to the plastic chicken in cardboard boats being topped on sandwiches at Subway, this is a much better alternative for my money.
