You Don’t Have To Tip At A Picnic!. European Gourmet isn’t a restaurant, its more of a grocery with a delicatessen, but that shouldn’t deter anyone from going here to get the components for a quick, easy, no-cook dinner or a picnic lunch. We dropped in here out of curiosity and because the owner was so helpful and forthcoming with samples, we walked out with bagfuls of goodies. The shelves are stocked with all sorts of interesting candies and snacks as well as many imported pickles, sauces, and preserves. The deli counter in the back is a charcuterie wonderland. You won’t find any Butterball Turkey or red plastic bologna here. They only have the serious stuff for people who seriously enjoy high quality food. After many samples, we ended up finally deciding on some thin, dry-cured sausage links, smoked Hungarian bacon, and head cheese. Head cheese isn’t actually cheese, its deli meat that is comprised of parts of a pig’s head and it was great. It may sound disgusting to most people, but its actually a lot less disturbing than what goes into making a chicken nugget or a non-kosher hot dog. Look it up if you don’t believe us. The deli counter also had an assortment of cheeses and huge layer cakes that are sold by the pound. We also ended up getting a jar of giant beans in tomato sauce, Ukrainian rye bread, cucumber pickles, a huge slice of honey sour cream layer cake, and a can of pate as well. Along with a tomato from the farmer’s market, we feasted like kings and loved every minute of it. For $40(the price of a halfway decent restaurant meal for two), we still have many meals worth of leftovers. Our next visit will be very soon and one of their beautiful smoked fish will be purchased. We hope everyone gives this place a chance. Don’t be intimidated either, the owner is more than happy to answer questions, give recommendations, and provide samples whenever possible. Its on Squires Road next to the Pantry Market, which is a bit out of our usual stomping grounds, but it is well worth the drive.

Anyone of European ancesty NEEDS to come check this place out!. The proprietor of this establishment (Artor) has an obvious love for what he is doing. He is eager to allow you to sample some of his unbelievable selection of cured meats and sausages. This allows you to try some things that you may not have otherwise.European Gourmet carries a selection of imported goods that I have never seen anywhere else in Lexington. Do yourself a favor and drop by I promise you will not be let down!
