Update (July, 2016): An absolutely awful experience at Magee’s – extremely rude service, menu items not available (and being informed of that only after they had been ordered and paid for) and unclean dining area and restrooms. It’s a good thing that Magee’s serves some of the best donuts and breakfast sandwiches in town because, based on our most recent experience, there is no other reason to return. It will be some time before we visit again. We love Magee’s Bakery, and have for years! Family owned since 1956, we always order cakes for special occasions from Magee’s, especially with its delicious buttercream icing. Magee’s serves various deli sandwiches, which I cannot wait to try, but each time we visit, we always end up ordering breakfast. Magee’s offers numerous blends of fresh roasted coffee (my personal favorite is Hazelnut), my favorite yeast chocolate donut (hand-dipped), and a generous portion of some of the best biscuits and gravy (with mild spicy sausage) in this city.
I love this place- I’m a fan of the cheese(Asiago) bagel and biscuits and gravy. Their donuts are good, but I’d prefer spaldings donuts over theirs. I do really like the cinnamon rolls.
Excellent donuts! And the Belmont bagel is a favorite! And it’s Even more delicious on a croissant! The staff is always warm and friendly and often throw in little bonuses for you.
This is a great place to have breakfast if you want to wait an hour and twenty minutes and still not get your food. I went on a Sunday at 10:15 and at 11:35 I asked for my money back and left. It was just an order for two sandwiches. There seems to be no clear method to how they handle the orders. People who ordered well after me got their food much quicker. I won’t be sitting through that again.
Excellent food. Great hometown atmosphere. The big bobs breakfast or whatever it is called is HUGE! Enjoyed it.
Terrible customer service. Had a friend buy me cookies from Magee’s. They were good but not great. Decided to go there myself and check out the selection of other baked goods they carried. Woman behind the counter was incredibly rude. She rolled her eyes at me because I told her I was still deciding. I am not one to complain but I immediately left and do not plan on returning. Not worth giving someone my business to be treated like that. Like I said before….their products are not worth it. Better bakeries in Lexington. Don’t waste your time or money here.
Bad customer service, even worse food. I went to Magee’s this morning for breakfast and since I did not have much of an appetite I ordered wheat toast with fried egg. It was a few minutes before anyone came to the register. Once I had placed my order I waited quiet a bit. Finally my order number was called and well it only got worse. The egg looked like it had fallen on the floor then probably been picked up and put on my plate. Ohh, and it was cold. The toast had a burnt taste to it. How do I know this? I dared to take a bite and regretted it immediately. I took the plate back to the counter and left. The staff had an overall rude attitude as well.
