They’ve got a menu I can’t find anywhere else. Even with the recent rise in prices, I still think that Sav’s is more than worth it. Excellent stews prepared by a great guy
Sav’s has been on my list for quite a while and today I got to experience the taste of West Africa. Had the peanut chicken over brown rice. Was expecting a pad Thai type of flavor but was much less nutty. Needed to add some of the habanero sauce to give it a kick. Service was excellent and quick. Would like to of had more vegetables incorporated into the dish but that is being nit picky. Will return– and order the goat or a vegetable entree!
Different type of cuisine but still so good. Sav is local and an awesome dude. His family runs the restaurant as well as the icecream place across the street. Be sure to pop in for some delicious and unique to Lexington food. Try the goat, it’s better than the chicken in my opinion
Awesome. It was so good that we bought extra Togo to take to lunch the next day. We got a small, but if we had got the large portions we would have had leftovers. It’s definitely not bland unless you fill your diet with lots of sodium and preservatives. It was wonderful. Going back as often as possible!!
Simply Chronic. The food is chronic. Sav is the man, local Lexington legend. Great guy, great food, get well soon sav!Lamb ragout and peanut goat are the best. People complaining about the price, stfu and go to McDonald’s.
Bland as bland gets. First time there on the recommendation of a friend. The owner was behind the counter, and was very welcoming. It’s a kettle cooking restaurant as the other reviews have mentioned. I have no complaints about that, have had some very good food from such places. Tried the peanut chicken over rice. First thing I noticed was that there wasn’t much other than rice and broth in the bowl. Easily less than 2 ounces of chicken and half a small potato chopped into nickel sized chunks. It also came with a small ketchup cup of hot sauce. Flavor was that of plain, unsalted, watered down chicken broth over white rice. Not a hint of spice or peanut. I added the hot sauce which gave it a tiny bit of heat but not much else. The bits of chicken were dry in the center, and the potatoes tasted like something from a can. I will not eat here again, and do not recommend anyone else try it.
Deliciously Different. We stopped by here on a way through Lexington. I saw ‘African Food’ and I couldn’t resist. Food was great home cooking. It isn’t fancy, but it is incredibly satisfying. I had the Lamb Ragout and my husband had the Beef Mafen over Fufu. Both were lovely. The fufu was really good and had a light plantain taste to it. I had some of their pepper sauce on the side, which really kicked up my dish a notch, it was wonderfully flavorful without being too overpowering in small quantities. Top it all off with a spicy ginger drink and I was in heaven. Staff was super welcoming and nice, restaurant was clean and well kept. I honestly can’t think of anything bad to say about it. Except that it is in Lexington and I live in Birmingham. If it wasn’t for the distance, I would definitely be back more often.
