Tastes like Italy. No. I’m serious. I lived in Italy for three months and had a sandwich from a very specific and very delicious spot in Florence almost every day for lunch. It had juniper-infused ham, mozzarella, and olive tapenade on scacciata bread. I’ve been searching ever since I came back to the states for a sandwich that good, and I finally found it here. The Stromboli on focaccia is sent directly from heaven to assault your mouth with more deliciousness than it could ever possibly handle at once. Prepare yourself, this will take a while to eat, because you’ll never want it to end. Most of the time I have to remind myself not to scarf down my food, but this sandwich simply didn’t offer than option. It was to be eating slowly, because something that fantastic deserves a bit of reverence. Ugh. I want another. So. Unbelievably. Delicious. Can’t stop thinking about it.Also, their desserts are amazing and unlike most of the other bakeries in town that all employ the same group of bakers, Sunrise’s bakers do not appear to work anywhere else. If they do, they don’t put in half as much effort as they do at Sunrise, because the cookies, cakes, breads, and various other viennoiseries/pastries are phenomenal. No one else in town makes a convincing or worth-while Sfoglia. Sunrise does, though. National Boulangerie wishes it could bake like this. Five stars. Eight thumbs up. Twenty-out-of-ten. Prefect score.
I’m not kidding, this is the best bakery I’ve ever been to. My friend who lived in Paris for a year says its as good as the best bakeries she’s ever been to. Conclusion? Lexington is better than Paris.Get the cheese danish. Or a bagel. Or a cinnamon roll. Or anything. Then wonder why you ever bother to eat anywhere else.
Cinnamon rolls are good for you. Friendly service, good coffee, delicious and healthy cinnamon rolls!
In Lex for 3 weeks due to work and my co worker told me about this place. So I went this place for lunch and I LOVE!!! Their sandwiches, pizzas, and desserts are great. You won’t be disappointed.
Great Surprise. Rushing to find a place to get a sandwich and coffee on a Saturday morning, I stumbled upon the Sunrise Bakery. You might overlook the modest sign but the sandwich board caught my eye. Great bread, European sandwich, Lavazza (Italian) coffee. I felt transported. Wish they were open every day. A gem.
Sunrise Bakery is the Best in the Bluegrass. I’m not entirely sure if Mr. Wise was eating at the same establishment as I’ve been to. Sunrise Bakery consistently delivers the best bread available here in the Bluegrass. As for it being soft-crusted and mealy, I suspect he brought some Wonderbread with him and was simply confused.Great atmosphere, great food and genuinely wonderful people who support the community. It’s a wise decision to go here.
Staple of downtown!. Since the first time I visited Sunrise I have been hooked. I visit the bakery about once a week and have yet to be disappointed. The atmosphere is great and the employees and owners are always happy to help. My only frustration is because of my work schedule and their hours I struggle to get in and get my fix when I need to, but I guess that means I can’t get sick of it!
