The porterhouse for two was plenty of food with delicious flavor. We’ve been here 3 times and every time we have loved our meal. It’s always full of flavor. I’ve also had the pasta special which came with pork belly and duck and that was amazing!
1/5/2016 – A company function brought me to Blue Heron. I had the Strip, baked potato, house salad, sweetened iced tea, and an apple crumb dessert. The menu was very clear stating the steaks were chargrilled (defined as burnt), but that did not deter my order.Quite simply, I wasn’t impressed. The steak was more well done than medium well (outside was burnt). The house salad was mostly spring greens, even with the miso-ginger dressing, it was flavorless. The apple crumb dessert (splashed with some brandy) and topped with a very small scoop of vanilla was probably the best thing I had.We were there fairly early (1800), only one other table was there and service was extremely slow. I probably will not return…especially if I have to spend my own money.
I have dined here a couple of times in the past 12+ months. It is generally very busy – so I would certainly recommend a reservation if you want a specific seating time. The food is very good – with the grilled oysters and filet being among my personal favorites. Honestly, outside of New Orleans, I have not had grilled oysters that I enjoyed as much anywhere else. For me, however, the highlight of a trip to The Blue Heron is the cocktails. Sitting at the bar and watching the creativity and fresh ingredients in their cocktails is like getting a show with dinner. Plus, the bartenders (I’m sure they are called mixologists) are always happy to chat and discuss some of their latest and greatest creations. Drawbacks of Blue Heron? Price is certainly a factor – difficult to get out for under $100 for two with drinks. Also, it can be very tough getting a table if you do not have a reservation. Ultimately, this is probably reserved as a special occasion restaurant for me due to cost and planning requirements.
Had a birthday dinner here. Didn’t have a reservation and they made a big deal out of it. Only two other tables and before they sat us we had to agree to be gone in under an hour. Geeze people. Food was good but certainly not a bargain.
Fresh Bloody Mary. Staff here was very friendly. I had a bloody Mary before dinner and they used fresh local tomatoes…I was very impressed! When dinner came around I got the new York strip which was ok. My friend got the fillet which I wish I had got too. Overall it was a good experience but like other reviews it was a little pricey for the quality of food.
Best Steak. Hands down the best steak I’ve had in Lexington! I love everything about The Blue Heron…the food, the service, the menu, the location! One of my favorites EVER!
An upscale steakhouse in downtown Lexington. Our group ordered the beef carpaccio with romano which was a very tasty start to our meal. We ordered the Allamand malbec, and enjoyed the flavor. Bread was brought to the table by our very capable server. I split the caesar salad with my husband – we ordered it with fried anchovies. The romaine lettuce was cut into very small pieces, and there didn’t appear to be any dressing on the salad. This was a disappointment, and it cost $11. My entree was the pappardelle tossed with oyster mushrooms, egg, and parmesan. (I asked them to leave off the pancetta), My husband enjoyed the filet of beef tenderloin, served with broccoli and potato wedges. Another diner had the bone in chicken which she enjoyed immensely! For dessert, we shared the dark chocolate mousse with cocoa nibs. This restaurant is in the old Ace magazine building, and is a wonderful space. All the previous rooms were removed, and it is one big open space divided by a double sided fireplace. A bar is along the right side as you enter the restaurant, and the exposed brick and wooden ceiling are perfect. There is plenty of parking adjacent to the restaurant. All in all, we enjoyed this restaurant.
