I have to travel to Louisville two or three times a year for work, and every time I visit, no matter what my schedule may be like, I make it a point to go to Boomer’s Canteen. The food is wonderful, but the people are the reason I go. I was in earlier today, and the owner recognized me from a stop six months ago. Steve, the waiter, will serenade you while you eat, and goes above and beyond to be prompt and courteous. I very highly recommend Boomer’s to anyone visiting the Museum Row area or simply passing through Louisville.
Grandma’s house, downtown!. This is such a great place. We’d somehow missed it even after visiting Louisville and hitting up the science museum many times in the past few years, but I’m so glad we stopped in yesterday. Imagine your southern grandma turned her house into a restaurant. That’s Boomer’s. You can even sit in an upholstered, comfy chair and watch TV while you eat on a tray table! Or, sit at a real dining room table with your family or friends in a room complete with all the kitschy touches you’d find at a beloved family member’s house. Beyond the super-comfy atmosphere, this place is clean, affordable, and incredibly friendly. The owner and our excellent waiter Steve, were on a first name basis with our kids by the time we left. They even put our extra chips in a bag for our car trip back home to Cincinnati. The menu is very basic, and you fill it in yourself. The chili is excellent and bit spicy. Burgers aren’t handmade, but not bad, and fit the bill just fine for the kids. There’s a hot dog and a grilled cheese option, too. They also have specials each day. Yesterday was homemade meatloaf or fried bologna sandwiches. All things considered, the food is fine, not gourmet, but not too greasy, either.If you’re hitting up museum row with your family, this is such a great choice for lunch or dinner. If Steve is there, you’re really in for a treat! Ask him about his school days alongside Mohammed Ali (or Cassius, as he remembers him). Highly recommended. This was one our best experiences as frequent visitors to Louisville.
A totally unique and special lunch experience. Good basic American lunch items served with exceptionally friendly and pleasant staff. A great stop after touring the Louisville Slugger factory.

Great people! So friendly!! Every lunch comes with a tasty fruit cup served when you sit down. Simple meals made to order. Don’t pass up the dessert!! I always visit the museums and then head to Boomer’s for lunch when I’m in town.
