Great fish sandwich!!! Huge! Chili was a good sized portion. It doesn’t have much spice, but if you like it that way, then I think it’s probably just right. Everyone was ordering it, so it’s obviously popular. Great neighborhood bar/restaurant. Will definitely be back.
Fish sandwich consisted of two thick filets. No way it could be eaten as a sandwich! Very good. Nice neighborhood feel. A little chilly.Interestingly, the bathrooms do not contain sinks but share a sink outside the bathrooms so you can see employees are washing their hands afterwards.
A Louisville lunch tradition, just don’t tell your Cardiologist. Fried fish sandwich, fried baloney, brats, chili, bean soup. Get there early for lunch or you won’t get a table.
Went today for the second time. I live in Shepherdsville so it’s a little bit of a drive but it’s worth it. Though they have a bar, Check’s still has a comfortable family feeling and good food. I’ll be back again.
Great food. My husband and I have been a hunt for a new place to get great fish sandwiches. We normally go to Mike Linnigs but neither one of us can see paying $14.00 for a fish sandwich that lately I hate to say has not been that good for the price. We came across this place quite by accident while looking for a place called Flabby s off Lydia Street in Germantown that said they carried the Mazzoni’s type rolled oyster that my husband grew up on. We decided to give this place a try once he learned they also have rolled oyster there. My husband really enjoyed the oysters and said they were the closes that he has had to Mazzoni’s since they closed. Their fish sandwich is great also and for half the price of Mike Linnigs. There was enough fish to make two sandwiches for us to share. While I was talking to my husband earlier on break I ask him if he knew what I would like to have right now and he said a fish sandwich from Check’s. I just smiled…he knows me so well.We are already planning on going back next weekend….

Louisville Legend. Fantastic sandwiches and a bowl of chili that’s worth the trip by itself. Love the neighborhood feel and friendly service
