El Nopal is my number one choice for Mexican food on the cheap. You get ALOT of food for your buck and it never disappoints. The combination platter with a burrito, enchilada, rice and beans is classic and both the ground beef and shredded chicken have good flavor. The Mexican rice is a little plain, but since it’s only a side item it’s not a deal breaker for me. Overall it’s a good place to go for cheap food that still hits the spot.

If it is busy, mostly, no, you won’t have a server checking on you every 30 seconds, but most Americans now feel entitled to those bottomless baskets of chips and soda, dang it! Now! But hey, relax, enjoy your time here. The people are happy and the food is the cheesiest, the best deal for quantity and you won’t be in complete yuppie company. I will drive across Louisville for this Nopal location.
Average food, terrible service. I have been here multiple times, thinking the next time will be different, but it’s always the same terrible service. The best thing about this place is how fast they get the food out, but I would never recommend this place to anyone.
At Ramada: ate here 3 nites in a row while visiting KY and loved it! Great variety! Great service! 2 thumbs up 🙂
Best Food Ever!!. I’ll start out by saying that I’ve been to most of the El Nopal locations and this one is by far my favorite. The service is average but the food… OMG amazing!! The manager, Sergio I believe was his name, was wonderful. He made balloon animals for my children which we loved and was very attentive and nice. I ordered the burrito al carbon it was awesome! Steak wrapped in a burrito topped with the cheese dip yum. A little big but not a complaint at all! Def my moneys worth. I will keep coming back to this location even when I a have closer El Nopal to my house. It’s just that damn good.
Good Mexican food served slowly. El Nopal is the Mexican restaurant located in the Ramada on Zorn Avenue (El Nopal is Spanish for a vegetable dish made from the young pad segments of prickly pear cactus. According to Reuters, some 10,000 farmers cultivate nopal in Mexico, producing around $150 million worth of it each year). The food is about average Mexican cuisine for this area, which means its pretty good. Louisville, Lexington, and Frankfort for some reason seem to have a higher standard of Mexican food than one finds in most areas of the country. Prices are also about average for Mexican restaurants in Louisville. Servers are all very friendly but not very well trained and by no stretch of the imagination attentive. The staff is more interested in talking among themselves than in making sure your drink is refilled. But if youre in no hurry and you dont mind your server being in no hurry either, this place is worth a try because everything I have eaten here has been well prepared and tasty.
Bad taste left in the mouth. The food was fine, but the wait staff could not have been less attentive. The waiters kept jumping over the patio fence and disappearing.
