Found this hidden gem while traveling south on vacation. It’s a small mom & pop joint but the food is delicious, authentic, and very reasonably priced. We loved everything we had including their signature dish drunken chicken, crawfish etoufee, and bourbon chicken.
I love J. Gumbo’s. I’m addicted to the etouffee! I go there twice a week.
Fantastic!. Came here because I was feeling adventurous and I wasn’t disappointed. The man at the register was really happy to let me sample several items so I could make a good choice for me (and it was a hard choice- everything I tried was good) and you could see his enthusiasm about the food. I settled on the drunken chicken because it’s the most popular and I was glad I did. Just a really good, nondescript place.
To cajun food as taco bell is to mexican. Slop. theres a reason there isn’t a j gumbos in louisiana. This food is for the cajun uninitiated. The gumbo is nothing more than over-seasoned water and rice. complete garbage. and inedible. Do yourself a favor and make some of your own. recipes are available on the net, Even the zattarans box is better than this slop.
The voodoo chicken poboy was good, but you really have to be in the mood for it because it’s quite spicy. The poboys are pretty big with quite a bit of meat.
Love their breakfast; fell like I’m in New Orleans.
You can’t go wrong… .. with J. Gumbo’s. Despite what others say, I have a tongue for true cajun and this is authentic. The prices are unbeatable, given the portion that is offered and overall – my only two problems with this place is.. I CAN NEVER FINISH WHAT I ORDER! You get more than plenty, bout that’s not a bad thing.. now is it? Secondly, they need to use more crawfish meat in their dishes.
