My husband and I stopped in Louisville for dinner on our way to Indianapolis. We wanted a unique, locally owned meal and we got lucky! We didn’t have a reservation, but there was a free table so we were able to be seated immediately. We were travelling so we didn’t imbibe. We started with the Sikil Pak appetizer: roasted pumpkins seed dip–it was delicious. For the entrees, I ordered the Spaghetti Squash Toss which was delightful with the green mol, golden beets, squash, black beans, and shiitake mushrooms. My husband ordered the striped bass with red sauce served over over rice and it was absolutely phenomenal! The service was great and we are very happy with the overall experience.

Service was very slow, also mixed up the orders so had to wait longer. Prices were a little on the high side for the food you get. Good place to try but will not be back.

Very good food in a strange little physical facility. Not really sure how else to categorize that. If you’re looking for authentic Mayan fare, it’s hard to find it better executed than here; and the service is very very good too.

Delicious from Start to Finish. Very nice meal at Mayan Cafe last evening! We started with an appetizer whose name I cannot recall that was a dip made from pumpkin seeds, served with tortilla chips. Great depth of flavor yet not too heavy. For our entrees, my wife and I both had the pork loin which was served with an open-faced tamale and with a side of their famous lima beans. The pork was lean and juicy and topped with pickled onions, which were a great contrast to the pork and really helped to set off the entire dish. The lima beans are absolutely delicious – if your entree does not come with these, I would suggest getting an order as a side. Our son had the Mayan burger (hey, he’s only six), which he managed to devour – this was served with a side of fried plantain chips – nicely done and not greasy. For dessert, we shared a bread pudding which came with a side of avacado ice cream – both were nicely executed. For drinks, my wife and I each had two local craft beers and we slit a glass of bourbon with dessert. Our son had a glass of grapefruit soda which very nicely done. All in all, a very nice meal for about $120 including tax + tip.

I like it but….service and food are everything. And they failed miserably today…..service was terrible from server to busser to hostess… We had 1:00 pm reservation, received food at 2:00 p.m. apps were good but slow and too much time in between. I ordered med well mayan burger that was presented blood red including the bun, server presented the wrong drink, no one spoke to us or made eye contact to any of us….we were seated directly in front of stations and had to ask for refills, help with the food and the check– no offer of the desserts, let alone any special preps for the day.. I had invited foodies from Cleveland, OH and was very embarressed by the experience. the Mayan stew needed salt which we couldn’t find a server/hostess/busser/anybody to bring the other items lacked something but better service would have changed the experience. The place, at late lunch time is very loud (they were busy, good for them!) but they not only missed the marks — we will not visit again soon.29 Sep, 2014I like it but….service and food are everything. VDAY MEAL. My boyfriend and I went here for Valentine’s Day meal. We always celebrate Vday the day before the actual holiday to avoid crowds. Anyway, I had the salmon and he had the chicken with a side of fried cactus, which was excellent! That was my first time having it. This was our first time going and we had a great time. They make nice strong cocktails as well. This place is slightly pricy and small, but the food, drink, and service was excellent. I would definitely recommend it.

EAT DINNER BEFORE DINING HERE. Tasty food, but TINY portions and overpriced.
