Absolutely phenomenal! Every visitor to the Louisville area must experience this restaurant. Service is great and the food is fantastic. The price point is a bit higher, but the value follows in suit. Delicious and innovative food options and comfortable atmosphere–a Louisville must-try!
Great service and food….reasonably priced, always consistent.. I come here regularly and am never disappointed. Every time I try and venture out and try something else, I find myself boomeranging back!
Lovely restaurant. First time here and my friend and I got the tiny corner table in front of the family room off to the left with no crowd to ruin our conversation. After a strong cocktail I ordered the Polpettine appetizer, or veal meatballs in a sort of mushroom cream sauce, and they were the best thing I have ever eaten, no joke. For entree I had the linguine with clams. There were so many clams I couldn’t believe my eyes, even with a few whole ones on top. A very large portion and so delicious the whole experience almost brought tears to my eyes.
Excellent. Great service, great food, nice wine selections, and an overall perfect night out. Fish specials are outstanding and ample- not some ridiculously small portion that you’d get served at other high-end restaurants. Timing of courses is spot-on. The owner, Tim, is a great guy- friendly and came by to chat for a second and then again stopped for a minute on our way out. What a classy joint! But it’s comfortable and you don’t feel like you’re in a stuffy, snooty eatery. A bit dark and very noisy- but that means it’s packed. And it should be. Will for sure make this a regular stop for us after only sporadic visits in the past years.
The food is always fantastic here. They have delicious fish specials and hearty portions. I don’t mind the price of the food because it is worth it and I am full even when I order fish! The Tuscan beans and shrimp are always a great starter.
Delish!. Came here with a couple friends the night before last. The artichoke and tortellini appetizer were fantastic. For the main course I had the dish with risotto and shrimp. It was amazing. My friends got various dishes that they were all very happy with as well. Service was friendly and prompt but not overbearing or intrusive. Will definitely be back! Can’t wait to sit outside on the patio once the weather warms up.
Good food and decent service, but noisy. Three of us had reservations for a recent Saturday night at Porcini. Overall the food was very good and the service was fine, but it was way too noisy at our bad table. We started out with two appetizers. The Sheltowee mushrooms on toast were outstanding and the fried artichokes were very good. For mains, my husband ordered the lamb special and it was one of the best pieces of lamb he has ever had. Of course, at $34, one expects a decent protein. My friend had the Pasta Pomodoro. We asked for, and received at a small upcharge, several extra vegetables that turned it into Pasta Primavera, which was excellent, although the pasta was cooked more than al dente. We did have to talk our server into it by asking several times if extra veggies were possible. I had the Formaggio salad, and it was very good. The only bad bite was our dessert the cannoli shell was cooked too long and was tough and almost burned, although the filling was lovely. We rounded it out with a nice bottle of Shiraz. Now the downside. Despite our reservations, our table was the worst possible. They sat us down right next to the kitchen door. We asked if we could have another table, but despite several empty tables were told it was not possible. We spent the entire night being bumped by servers coming to and fro and by patrons going to the restroom. And my entire view was of the kitchen door not very nice. I guess someone has to get the bad table, but it was not a very good first impression. Another issue was the noise level. By the time we left it was almost deafening. This is not a white tablecloth restaurant, and the addition of tablecloths or other textiles would help take down the noise level. And at these prices ($20 – $34 per entree) one expects tablecloths. We enjoyed our evening at Porcini, but will probably only return early on a weekday night when we can choose a nicer table and hopefully hear each other talk.
