Thanksgiving night, landed at SDF, no cars at National, had to wait an hour for them to find one somewhere. Naturally was hungry and now grumpy and nothing was open, Thanksgiving night, go figure, knew that was going to be a problem, even some of the 24 hour places were closed. Not Spinelli’s, or at least the this location – the guy at the counter tells me this was the only location in town open. Wanted a slice, and they had one pepperoni slice left, that had been sitting there possibly as long as a hot dog at a gas station on Thanksgiving. He did offer to make whatever I wanted. However I wanted to get to the hotel so opted for the lone slice to go that must have been waiting for me.It was great, I understand the pizza here is good, but this little Charlie Brown Christmas tree slice that had been waiting who know how long for me to get here was great. Good dough, good sauce ratio, huge and wasn’t greasy, so it might not have been waiting that long, perhaps it had just been put out and all of its’ brothers and sisters had all been purchased moments before I walked in.So if you are looking for pizza in the middle of the night,on Thanksgiving, or anytime, this is the place to come. Yeah it’s a dive bar atmosphere, am sure parking can be a huge challenge, and no I wouldn’t have my kid’s birthday party here like another reviewer said, but if you are looking for a great slice this is your place, and they are open pretty much whenever.

Pizza was super greasy and the staff was stoned out of their minds. My daughter wanted to go for her birthday and she regrets it. We prefer Impellizzeris for atmosphere and quality.

Spinelli’s is always there when I’m up at 2 am with no where else to go. Solid Philadelphia style pizza with a grungy atmosphere. Love their fried oreos.

Not my style of place exactly, but the food is pretty good. The pizza is okay depending on tastes, but it’s huge! Would prefer a less sweet tasting sauce, but again it depends on tastes. Ordered fries here as well and they were plentiful and delicious! Great prices! Laid-back place!

Best pizza in Louisville! The Highlands location is always a unique experience and you have to love a wall-size mural of Burt Reynolds!! Try a pie with onion and ricotta-it’s the best.

Dixie store is the worst! HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. It took everything I had to keep from uncorking on someone at spinnelli’s on Dixie tonight! Is it just me, or are they lacking in the customer service department? Seriously, I had to shut my mouth and walk out before it got worse. It’s always hit or miss there. Most of the time service isn’t that great, which I deal with, but, never have they been so Rude. It’s sad, cause it could be a nice pizza joint. I’m lost for words. I ordered a pizza togo and a beer both from the bartender, didn’t really pay much attention that she took my name, so I sat at the end of the bar where I always do and watched TV and played on my phone. Some time went by and my glass sat empty. At some point another girl walked up and asked if I wanted another beer… I replied, well it depends on how long before my pizza is done.Come to find out my pizza sat up on top of the oven for no telling how long. They said they called my name multiple times over at the counter on the other side of the restaurant. Then to top it off. The driver seen me setting at the bar with my debit card in hand and expected me to get up and walk to him?? Why would you not bring the pizza to the bar where it was ordered from?So by this time not only am I trying to make my point to the one guy (who might be the manager ) and who’s trying to talk to me like I’m a complete moron, …now I’ve got the delivery driver chiming in under his breath and acting like a punk .

New Yorker’s opinion of Spinelli’s slice (meatlovers). I do want to start off by stating that I am a born and raised New Yorker; and that I hold that only two boroughs have the best pizza in New York City: The Bronx (where I grew up) and Brooklyn. Therefore, my standards are extremely high. Some of you will disapprove of the high standards, but I’m a New Yorka, what can I say. Spinelli’s describes itself as a Philadelphia style pizzeria, so I realize that there are some differences from NYC pizza. However, Spinelli’s pizza falls under the eastern style of pizza spectrum, which is where I think it falls short. First, I want to communicate what Spinelli’s does right. The freshness of the ingredients, dough, meats, cheese is definitely there. The flavor of the cheese and meats was also very good. The size of the slice was also excellent. When I received my slice, the red chili pepper flakes was within reach, and I was able to procure some garlic powder, although they had to get some from the kitchen (in NYC, all pizzerias have two things on the their counters: red chili flakes and garlic powder). This was important, because a slice can’t be eaten without red chili flakes and garlic powder. The bad: The dough. When I think about a slice, I have to be able to do one important thing, fold it easily. I need to fold the slice so I can pick up and and put down easily; walk with it if I have to; and sandwich the all the ingredients to get the full spectrum of flavors. Unfortunately, when I folded my slice, it broke in half. I blame this on the fact that the slice did not have the middle, chewy layer that all New York pizza is known for. Although NYC pizza is thin, what most people don’t know is that the middle layer is thick enough to stand up against the sauce, cheese, and other ingredients. Furthermore, the flavor of the dough was ok. I noticed that the attendant who got me my slice brushed olive oil on the pizza to enhance flavor. If the dough does not impart flavor on its own, the product is sub-par. Period. The bad (continued): the sauce. I did not think that the sauce was flavorful enough. Instead, the sauce was weak, and could not stand up to the other ingredients. In a good slice, the sauce will never be a by-stander to the other ingredients. The sauce is actually the most important ingredient, next to the dough. In the case of Spinelli’s, the taste of the sauce was ok, but too weak. Furthermore, the ingredients (the cheese and meats), just slid off the slice when I attempted to fold it. I couldn’t believe it, especially for a joint that claims to be a Philadelphia style pizzeria. I’m not sure that the guys back in Philly would be pleased! Finally, bang-for-your-buck. Spinelli’s pizza is highly over-priced! I got one meatlover’s slice and a bottle of diet Coke. I paid $9.14! Are you crazy! This was just too much. I can go to almost any neighborhood pizzeria in NYC, whether it be the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, or Queens, and get a good slice for $1.50-$2.50; and pay no more than $4 for a fully loaded slice with fresh and tasty ingredients. And these are not specialty pizzerias, just your run-of-the mill neighborhood pizzerias. This is what New Yorkers demand. Otherwise, they wouldn’t be in business. Thus, I don’t understand why Spinelli charges so much. The pizza is ok, and not worth the prize. In summary, I will say that I have tasted a lot of pizza in Louisville, and Spinelli’s is the best so far. However, it falls way short of what I would consider just good pizza.
