Freshly sliced meat. The only remaining Sub Station in our area and worth the drive every time. Their subs are delicious, fresh, and the meat does not taste overly processed as does other similar sandwich establishments. You must try their ham, salami, and pepperoni sandwich fully dressed (minus the salt for me). The oil/vinegar/oregano mix gives it a nice, fresh antipasti-like flavor.

No school like the old school. As another reviewer put it, this is a good example of the old school sub shops of my youth. I used to eat here frequently, and at their old location, when I lived in the area. But having moved away, I rarely find myself in the area and in the mood for a sub.Yesterday that changed. I walked through the door and felt immediately at home. The place was clean, and had been repainted, but the menus looked exactly the same. There are even vintage arcade machines!I got the #15 ham, capicola, salami and pepperoni. I got it the way I remember it, on a thick plain sub bun with mayo, oil, vinegar, pepper, oregano and a pile of lettuce over thin sliced meat and some slices of tomato. The meat is sliced to order and tasty, and while not a heaping pile of meat, it is quite good. I think you can order extra meat or toppings should you wish. Though there might be a charge. Being as the half subs are under $5, I don’t think it will break the bank. But if you are in the mood for what a certain chain, known for many types of bread that all taste the same, is trying to recreate, this place does it. Just as well as it did back in the 80s.

If you love bread, this place is for you!!All bread and no meat, I’m talking paper thin and not even toasted. Not what I consider good by mo means, whoever wrote these favorable reviews have obviously never had a real sub.

Pleasant staff, large portion sizes, & speedy sub-building! Yum, yum.

My family has been picking up sandwiches from here for at least 20 years (ever since my dad worked at Ford), and now my fiancee and I have picked up the tradition. We love these sandwiches so much that we go out of our way to pick them up before we on our trips to Bernheim! The employee are always nice, and the sandwiches are big (deapite having shrunk over the years)

Been a longtime customer as well…. my mom and I used to meet my dad here for lunch when he worked at ford (mid 80s). I hadn’t been back in a long while, but stopped in recently and was presently surprisess to find that they were still as good as I remembered.

Long-Time Fan. I may have been one of the first customers who dined at Sub Station when it opened its doors a block up Fern Valley from its current location back in the late 70s when I was attending Watterson College up the street. Through the years, I have come back to partake of one of the better sub sandwiches in Louisville. Theirs is a more an old school take on a sub, rather than dressing it up with fancy breads and such. Meats and cheese are sliced up for your sandwich when you order like in an old deli rather than being sliced up in the morning and wrapped in wax paper like a lot places do nowadays. The rolls are always fresh with a good texture and the meats are also fresh with nice flavors. This is not the fanciest place, and a couple of my friends don’t like it because they serve cold subs and my wife doesn’t care for the mayo they serve, but I have enjoyed it for three decades and will probably keep coming back for some time to come.
