The fishery is truly a what you see is what you get establishment. Not a lot of options for someone that isn’t looking for meat/seafood options. While I understand the premise of this restaurant is around fish, I do wish they offered a quality salad. At this point, that is not the case.
Looks very old and worn out. Needs some undated furnishings, looks tired and old. Food is alright, but all fried.
Middletown??. We have eaten at the St. Matthews shop many times and have found the food and service to be fine, great fish sandwich and onion rings. Tuesday night we were in Middletown, so we decided to try the Fishery Rest. on Shelbyville Rd. The dinning area is much bigger and nicer than St.Matthews but about the same menu. I had the boiled cat fish on a tossed salad and my wife had the pan fried oysters plus one order of onion rings. We got our drinks and picked out a table and in a few minutes our number was called and a tray with the food was placed on the counter for pick up. There were only five onion rings in the box and this was $2.25 worth, good but over priced. I had two small cuts of catfish, thin, on top of a bagged salad and this was $9. My wife had a small helping of pan fried oysters, about 12 small ones. After I picked up our order, I noticed the counter help would go over and pick up the tray of food and carry it out to the customer, not for us. Maybe these were regular customers and she was trying to be nice to them… I think next time we are in Middletown and want fish, we will go across the street to Moby Dicks, not here again.
The clammstrips. The fish has always been very good. I tried the clam strips and they were awful. They were mostly soggy breading. Some had no sign of clam strip, all dough.I’m going back to the fish.

This is a family restaurant with GREAT seafood. You cant go wrong!! Personally I love the fried cod fish sand which on rye bread with a baked potato and their homemade macaroni. Or the fried oyster dinner, but I also LOVE their BOURBON GLAZED SALMON. Not a seafood person? Fried chicken tenders and the chicken sand which are also premium choices!!
Best cod sandwich I’ve ever had. Overly generous portions of amazing food + beer = yes please!
